Re: change MDM background and menu opacity

You need to install MDM themes. Gnome-look.org has a great many of these. Most of the original GDM 2.x themes work too. If you're looking for a specific look, it's easy to take a theme that's similar to what you want, unzip it, then swap out backgrounds or change opacities using Gimp. Rezip and then...

Re: Compiz vs Marco on MATE

I've been using Compiz since it first arrived on the scene years ago and I never have trouble with it. My experience with Mate on Mint 17.1 is no different. The key to trouble free Compiz is having well supported hardware, the correct driver and a well configured compiz backend file.

Re: Chitwanix OS + Sagarmatha DE: A cinnamon fork al Win. 8

@ Killer de bug "What I can see in this "distro" is a fork of Cinnamon 2.0 (2.2 is now available) without the smallest change. This is just a useless fork. This distro will fail. It's just a matter of weeks." Probably not. This distro will be the one of choice in Nepal instead of Linux Mint. Will it...

Re: Chitwanix OS + Sagarmatha DE: A cinnamon fork al Win. 8

@ Zorba Oops, I spoke too soon. Upon more careful review Sagarmata is simply using a few existing Cinnamon extensions that provide wobbly windows, the cube effect and a couple others. I've looked at some of these extensions in the past and they're nowhere near up to Compiz's level of zing. Sorry if ...

Re: Chitwanix OS + Sagarmatha DE: A cinnamon fork al Win. 8

@ Zorba I took a look through their website and it clearly states that all the Compiz goodies are included. What's interesting is that Sagarmatha is a fork of Cinnamon 2.0. Therefore, it's possible to port these effects to Cinnamon proper. If Mint did that then Cinnamon would become the best DE hand...

Re: Chitwanix OS + Sagarmatha DE: A cinnamon fork al Win. 8

What I find so intriguing about Chitwanix OS's Sagarmatha desktop environment is that it has all of Compiz's effects out of the box. I really wish Clem and team would add these to Cinnamon and give us back our wobbly windows and spinning cube. In the meantime, I wonder if Sagarmatha can be compiled ...

Re: Geary 0.4.2 has "squished" mail list

*Update*

Yorba actually released a 0.5.1 development version that I was able to compile after tracking down the dependencies. This version fixes the squished message list issue. But, I'll still wait for an official deb to be built for Debian.

Geary 0.4.2 has "squished" mail list

I am using LMDE UP8 tracking testing. I installed Geary from the repos and was delighted with it except the mail list pane is all "squished." I did some research and discovered that Yorba, the app's developer fixed the issue with Geary 0.4.3 which is available for Linux Mint 16 and the Ubuntu flavor...

@ kurotsugi

Just because your experience with LMDE hasn't been up to your expectations doesn't mean that it hasn't been fabulous for others. Every computer is different.

Re: Mint Cinnamon compared to LMDE Cinnamon

LMDE Cinnamon with UP8 is just about on par with Mint Cinnamon 16 except that its also faster, (semi) rolling and fully Debian compatible. :D

Re: UPDATE PACK 8 FEEDBACK THREAD

@ killer de bug I don't understand why you guys having problems with the older Nvidia driver in the repositories don't simply just use the latest official drivers from Nvidia's site? It's simple to compile the driver yourself and then DKMS will automatically do so thereafter, whenever you update you...

No desktop icons after UP8 upgrade Cinnamon 2.x [Solved]

Fully updated to UP8 and now Cinnamon 2.0 has no desktop icons. I chose to let Cinnamon reset all settings but still no dice. Anyone have any other suggestions? *** Update *** After researching this issue quite a bit, I ended up solving the problem by going into dconf-editor and deselected all the b...

Re: Forks: Compiz-MATE 0.8.8, mate-globalmenu 0.7.10 (LMDE)

You could always use the late, great Shame's repository, which is still up and functional. It has a slightly older version of Compiz (0.7.9 vs. 0.8.4) but I used that version for a long time and it's rock stable. Another advantage is that Shame's repository also has Emerald so you won't need to down...

Re: Forks: Compiz-MATE 0.8.8, mate-globalmenu 0.7.10 (LMDE)

Okay Mates (pun intended); here's a tutorial on how to get Compiz and Emerald up and running in MATE 1.6. *Warning* Don't blame me if you screw up your system - proceed at your own risk!!! A. You need to install the Compiz packages. Since Debian has jettisoned the packages due to lack of maintenance...

Re: Forks: Compiz-MATE 0.8.8, mate-globalmenu 0.7.10 (LMDE)

I just stumbled across this thread. I have compiz and emerald working beautifully in LMDE UP7 with MATE 1.6. I simply installed Compiz 0.8.9 from the Debian snapshots repository, then grabbed an older DEB for Emerald and it's dependency from an Ubuntu PPA. I had to make one modification to a file fo...

Re: Cannot compile Nvidia 331.20 against Liquorix 3.12

Well, based on MoonDragon's assessment that unified memory is really something that only future nVidia graphics cards can take advantage of, I went ahead and compiled the driver against 3.12.4 using the --no-unified-memory flag as he originally suggested. It worked perfectly and I don't seem to noti...

Cannot compile Nvidia 331.20 against Liquorix 3.12 [Solved]

I'm having a strange problem. The compilation of nvidia 331.20 against Liquorix Kernel 3.12 fails with the error: unable to build unified memory module Try building with –no-unified-memory option I didn't try that as I have a GeForce GTX 660 which should be more than up to snuff for all nvidia featu...

Re: How do I install Cinnamon 2.0.12 in LMDE UP7?

@ Killer de bug Hey man, thanks for the links. I'm actually an experienced, long-time Linux user, however; I'm getting lazier as I get older. Which is why I asked for some pre-compiled debs which I hoped would bump me up to Cinnamon 2.0 without much fuss. Unfortunately, that wasn't the cas...
