Re: Amazon requires updating to newer version of Flash

Nevermind, fixed it.

Playback requires the package "hal" to be installed.

SOLVED Amazon requires updating to newer version of Flash

Hi all. On three instances of 12.04-based distos (Precise, Mint 13 Cinnamon, Mint 13 KDE), all fully updated, Amazon prompts me to upgrade to a "newer" version of Flash to play back content I've purchased at their site over the years. AFAIK, I'm already running the current (and last) versi...

*Solved* DVD Autoplay creates two media player instances

Whenever I insert a DVD, two media player windows launch; they both work, it's just annoying closing one each time.

This behavior is the same with MPlayer, VLC, and Totem, autostart changed via the "Details" setting.

I'm using Mint 13 Cinnamon.

Thanks.

Re: Question for Developers

Is this in reference to LMDE? It's derived from Debian Testing, their version of Gnome is Testing's version; since Testing is essentially a repo, and not a distro per se, Debian doesn't make any alterations to the "stock" programs contained there. No one at Mint is trying to "make ano...

Re: Put updatemanager back on panel?

Update Manager isn't a pinned applet; it only appears in the system tray when running, even if it's just running "in the background", similar to how Pidgin, Banshee, and VLC behave. Launching the program via the Menu should bring it back, and by default it's set to autostart on boot; it'll...

System Settings>Keyboard>Shortcuts Tab>System

I set mine to ALT Z, seemed the closest combo to how Gnome Shell works (Darn muscle memory!)

Re: Uninstall from software manager

Uninstalling from the Software Manager leaves the dependencies/libraries in place.

To remove them, use the "apt-get autoremove" command in a Terminal.

I would second Mint's LXDE version.

Low resource.

Lightweight applications.

One panel, unobtrusive UI.

Re: Gnome 3.4 and Linux Mint 13

Anywhere this is documented? And where did you read Ubuntu 12.04 includes Gnome-Shell 3.4??? Unity is based on gnome, not gnome-shell why would it be included? Most components of Gnome 3.4 made it into Ubuntu 12.04 before feature freeze. This doesn't mean that they will all be installed by default ...

Re: Pretty much decided that Mint is not for me.

I have found that the most recent version of the Ubuntu Software Center (11.10) responds quicker than Mint's Software Manager; not just in initial launch, but while browsing through categories as well. That said, the UBC that came with Oneiric doesn't exactly launch like lightning either, but still ...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Compiz isn't starting at all

You can indeed change mouse cursors. You will need to use the Terminal and Gnome Tweak Tool for this, and of course a new cursor set. The video and instructions below are using the oxygen mouse cursor theme for convenience, since it's already in the standard Ubuntu repository, but the procedure is a...

Re: Which Distro

Mono is based on Microsoft's .NET; some very vocal Linux users do not like it and advocate for it's removal from the default installation of Ubuntu and other distros. From what I've read, their dislike stems from the Microsoft association and potential patent issues that MS might decide to leverage ...

Re: Which Distro

Yes, Tomboy Notes is being removed as of 12.04.

Along with Banshee, it is being dropped because of legal concerns due to Mono.

There aren't any plans to replace it with a similar application, you'll have to use the Software Center to meet your needs.

For Both taskbars?

I'm not sure what Cinnamon is, but it sounds like it should be standard!
Thanks
Cinnamon's default layout only uses one panel, thus using autohide would clear everything of the screen.

You only have two panels in Cinnamon if you select that option and reload.

There's an option to enable autohide in the Panel icon under Cinnamon Settings.

You can also move the panel to the top if you wish to use a top panel/bottom dock configuration.

Docks in Cinnamon won't create a separate session a la "Cairo Dock (with Gnome)", they run just like any other normal application.

Definitely keeping my eye on this project; once the final gets released I'll add it to my rotating cast of distros that I install and tinker with on a spare partition or two. Even when I don't run them as my daily OS, I like to "stay current" with what's going on out there in Linux land. S...

Re: Installing Cinnamon in Mint 12

Cinnamon desktop doesn't use any green by default, so when installed on an Ubuntu base it's not surprising that orange would appear; the GTK theme is used across the various sessions, and is separate from your Cinnamon themes, just as Gnome Shell themes and GTK themes aren't mutually dependent. I'm ...
