Re: videos playing

What might be nice would be some sort of preview pane that you could preview videos in without having to open another application, since audio files can already be previewed just by hovering over them with the pointer. I don't have the time, skill, or anything necessary to implement something like ...

Re: Linux Mint 11 "Katya" released!

Ive installed LM11 RC some time ago, how do I install final release? There was a few uptades before but nothing big, so Im not sure if I already have final release or not, lol. How can I check it? If you have the RC installed, and run the updates as they come, you will automatically upgrade to the ...

Re: Just joined

Good to have you. Mint 11 will not feature Unity. It will be based on the "classic" Gnome 2.32 desktop, without any shell overlay like Unity. The look and feel will be very similar to that found in Mint 10, as a look at the Mint 11 release candidate shows: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1752

Re: BleachBit - your thoughts on it aka "useful" or "not"

BleachBit is a very helpful app, much more so IMO than ComputerJanitor, a somewhat similar app. Provided, of course, you know exactly what you're deleting off your system. If you happen to have Ubuntu Tweak installed, it also has a config file/cache cleaner function that is streamlined and easy for ...

Anyone have experience with the Ubuntu Gnome 3 PPA?

Hello. I'm looking to give Gnome 3 a decent run on my desktop, and was wondering if anyone here has spent time using the Gnome 3 ppa for Natty? I already have 11.04 installed, and realize that switching to Gnome 3 will irrevocably alter that install. Would I simply be better off downloading Fedora 1...

Re: My Internet is Torturing me to DEATH!!!

If you place the live CD in your CD/DVD drive and then boot the computer, Linux Mint should load and run directly off the disc. That will enable you to rule out whether the issue is your hardware or the OS; if you do get a connection while running the live CD, then something went wrong with the vers...

Re: Installing software

Where are you trying to install it from? Synaptic or the Google Chrome site? Since you mentioned Firefox, I'll assume the latter, but you never can tell sometimes. If you go to the Google Chrome site, all you should have to do is click the "Install" button, and gdebi should take care of th...

Re: google chrome browser

Google Chromium is in the default software repository (last I checked). You can install it using Synaptic. Google Chrome can be downloaded and installed as a .deb file from the Google Chrome website. I've used Chrome for the last few months with no problems. I've found it to be quicker than Firefox,...

Re: Rolling distribution

A rolling release is one that is constantly updated, and doesn't have an "end of life" date after which it won't be supported with application and security updates. For example, Ubuntu releases a new version every six months that it supports for 18 months, except for LTS releases that get ...

I don't know the answer to that one, but I'm curious what name it decided on: Chester, Eduardo, Abigail?

Isadora would be fitting, eh? :D

Re: Did I Buy The Wrong Version?

Sure you can install a LiveCD to your hard drive; you'll be given that option once the LiveCD loads. You've got the right thing.

25 gigs of space is fine for a Linux install.

Re: Mint is currently #1 ranking on Distrowatch!

Not surprising, given that Mint made two significant releases in the past week: Mint 9 Fluxbox Edition and Linux Mint Debian Edition. The Debian release in particular has already gotten a lot of attention, and I'm certain it will receive even more in the coming weeks as word spreads. The 7-day numbe...

Re: If Linux Mint disappeared tomorrow, what would you use?

Well, I've got PCLinuxOS installed in VirtualBox right now, so that's probably where I'd stick for a bit if Mint disappeared suddenly.

Hope that never happens though. :)

{Solved} Advice on trying to resurrect an old computer

Hi. I am trying to resurrect a late-90's Gateway for a friend, and am wondering which light-weight Mint edition would be best: Xfce, LXDE, or Fluxbox. I already tried Ubuntu 10.04 and Mint 9 GNOME, and they work okay, but apps still open a bit on the slow side, and she doesn't need all those program...

Re: New install of Mint Gnome - Can I keep existing /home ?

I did just the same thing on Sunday, but backwards: KDE install to GNOME, and everything worked fine. Good luck, and don't let the "Linux problems" get you down; I went through the same thing, and now eight months later I'm testing out distros left and right in VirtualBox and on my seconda...

Re: guest additions for virtual box

Ah! Thank you so much. It was listed under floppy, and not CD for some reason, so all the tutorials telling me to look in that directory weren't applicable. I had to keep going down the tree some more. Thank you again for your help.

guest additions for virtual box (SOLVED)

I've been trying to install them, but with no luck. Virtual box shows the iso as being mounted, it shows up on the Ubuntu desktop, and yet when I look for it in the terminal, it isn't there. When I try to look up the directory for /media/cdrom, I get nothing. I've looked around the forums and Youtub...

Re: Uninstall

Insert any LiveCD with a partition editor on it (like gparted, for instance), and erase all the partitions associated with Mint. Then reformat them as you see fit.
