Re: Update issues

Thanks for that lsemmens. A new install and copying across - yes, this was often necessary in bad old Redmond days, but now my HDs run into the Tb range rather than a few Mbs, so it would take a lifetime to transfer all the files, directories & co. Would like to rule that option out!

Re: 19.3 upgrade- Claws won't boot, lost std. windows & tabs, default tray missing/empty

Since karlchen didn't respond to the info requested, I decided to clone the backup onto the primary disc with only a small loss of data. Another attempt to update to 19.3 on the backup was successful so this ticket can be closed - but NOT with a 'Solved' message please because it wasn't solved and o...

19.3 upgrade- Claws won't boot, lost std. windows & tabs, default tray missing/empty

Upgraded from 19.2 to 19.3. Struggling with several issues. Cannot access my Claws email application, although it's still listed. ??? The tabs and windows and default tray didn't get loaded. Fortunately have 19.2 backup and the FF History + Bkmrks are intact. Not had any difficulties upgrading this ...

Re: [SOLVED] Linux Mint 19 very slow boot times of ten minutes or so.

With respect, Damien, I would invite you to re-examine your recommendation to candido1212. Frankly, I find it absurd - his report is exactly pertinent to the topic. Some folks have found that "[SOLVED] Linux Mint 19 very slow boot times of ten minutes or so." is not "[SOLVED]". Any and all evidence ...

Re: [SOLVED] Linux Mint 19 very slow boot times of ten minutes or so.

Using LM19- Xfce. Followed the "[SOLVED}" solution, checked everything, GA-78LMT-USB3 board, 1TB HD, 6Mb RAM, onboard Radeon video - sadly, no improvement on the 8-10min. boot time. Any further advice please? did I do something wrong? need something different for this HW? other comments, suggestions?

Re: Update Claws from 3.13 to 3.16 in Sylvia

Thanks, deepakdeshp. Yes, of course, have a cloned version and read the Ubuntu install instructions. The latest version is 3.16(?) but my installed version is 3.13 - the same as the version offered by the Mint Software Manager. Would a CLI apt command(s) be effective? safe?

Update Claws from 3.13 to 3.16 in Sylvia

How can I update Claws, if possible? from CLI? Command(s)? Will it destroy all stored info? Already have the .tar.gz

Re: New people need to stop using 18.X and use 17.3.

17.3 is certainly mature and has been a rock for me. 18.1 represents progress, is strong and is the future. The advantage of Mint lies in the vast & (usually) helpful Forum together with regular updates. As for bugs, there was a published (where?) rigorous statistical analysis of computer code in th...

Claws transfer to LM18.1Xfce

This little matter was driving me crazy. Regular LM-Xfce user for years, never had an issue transferring Claws inboxes/Sentboxes before but LM17.3-to-18.1 didn't seem to work. The latest Claws v.3.13.2 sets the default mailbox to the MH/name-of-your-first-(default)-user-name e.g. MH/xyz, unlike prev...

Re: File being ignored on start up (SOLVED)

Got the same accursed message with new installation of LM18-Xfce-beta. Never had this before. It happens after I give the PW, but can log-in by clicking OK in the error message box. Tried changing the 644 to 600 with chmod as recommended above. Hard restart: same error message. Am a user, not a guru...

Re: Disappearing task bar

Thank you for your polite reply, Fred. I also run Cinnamon and Mate on other machines without issue. My guess is still that the 'disappearing taskbar' might well have some commonality across desktops and aeons? In the sciences, it usual to refer back to originators of inventions, discoveries and ded...

Some mighty rude persons seem to have invaded this thread. I have absolutely no intention of duplicating a thread which perfectly describe a problem I have encountered - even if it were 25yrs old and written in DOS. But I do intend to draw attention to ignorami like 'Cosmo'.

Re: Disappearing task bar

Same problem here with 17.3Xfce. It's a new feature, think it may have started after a recent update? The whisker menu was substituted by the old 'Applications' menu (which works OK) but a new panel menu appeared and cannot be deleted although it can be emptied. Someone somewhere must have the answe...

This one isn't yours
Just trying to help - no need to be rude. Not the attitude of the Dutchmen I've met.
Has it occurred to you that there might be some commonality in these crashing observations?

Re: Cinnamon - random crashes (X-server)

consider a switch to the Xfce Not too sure about that. Rosa is the first (Mint) Xfce I've ever encountered that crashes regularly after 1-2hrs inactivity. Tried increasing memory, disabling screensaver, changing PSU, nothing seems to work and the crash is total ie requires hard reset. Any ideas ple...

Re: Intercepting the boot-up repair console.

Thanks, O.R. Sometimes use a Puppy liveCD for repairs & co because it's small and fast, but it's less effort to use the internal console if it's there! Yes, modern kit is too fast - can't always hit the F8 at the correct time...
