Re: Recent update of Maya XFCE broke... something?

gosa - you are lucky. Like you I updated Maya yesterday. As usual, some of the packages were unavailable from Debian, but it seemed OK without them, again, as usual with these updates. After using the updated system for a while, then the shutdown didn't seem to go smoothly and had to make a forced s...

Re: Linux Mint 14 XFCE

Brilliant. Great work guys. Have another gong. I know it gives us all a good laugh When it is ready , but some of us would be most grateful for some/any guidance, even if it's 'before the end of the century' (hopefully sooner, though) because we, in turn, have other folks to satisfy, projects to pla...

Re: Linux Mint 13 "Maya" released!

Making a number of hardware changes, rationalisations, etc. Lazslo (or was it Jesse?) seems to think there'll be a KDE & Xfce along soon? Only ever use Xfce these days so would appreciate ball-park figure/confirmation of expected other releases. Thanks a bundle.

Re: Login problems

For me the topic can be closed. - but not for me! Using Xfce9 with updates. Recently been getting crashes to black screen with total lock-out needing hard reset. Today, it happened again but got the '242' message as well. No idea why. Always have quite a few tabs and windows open but number of thes...

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) Bug Fixes(Updated July 6th)

Quite happy still running LM9Xfce; don't see any reason to change it at present. However, just recently been getting 27 nested copies of Wastebin Error messages after a clean boot. Although I usually leave a load of windows and tabs open which might be an issue, it didn't start happening until a few...

Re: Root access Xfce Mint 201104

I would not recommend it at all. Sooner or later you will bork your system. Although this advice is well-meaning, as a general statement it is utter BS. If someone 'borks' their system, it's entirely their own fault. For a lone punter working in his garden shed to which no-one else has access, work...

Re: Linux Mint 11 LXDE RC2 released!

Nice release, just a couple of points and a question. 1. Boot splash - inconsequential whether there's just dots, logo+dots or something more exotic, but this one just has a black screen! SiS Mirage 1 chipset; otherwise, performs perfectly. 2. Logitech Mouseman Wheel and 4D Browser UP mice don't dis...

Re: LXDE-64. Reprise

Yup, got that Al, but there are loads of single core boards coming onto the junk heaps now, eg 754 & 939. Of course, they'll run 32-bit, too, but just asking....

LXDE-64. Reprise

Yes, it's been asked before in various places, but let's do it one more time. Will there be a 64bit version - ever? Would there be any advantage?

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!

Thanks, Albert. All you say is true, of course. I've followed the various nuances of most of the main players this last decade or two. However, facts are facts; the end result, in this case, is just not what users expect or should expect when other developers have circumvented these vagaries. Nor is...

Re: Linux Mint Xfce (201104) released!

The 64-bit version is the biggest disappointment for many years. Not only is the .iso unnecessarily bloated, but the (unhindered!) install took six hours and contains loads of stuff that the average user will never want. The installer is a pain. There were the 337 updates immediately listed. Etc., e...

Re: XFCE10

More people complain of problems with brasero and replace it with Xfburn than the other way 'round. Sometimes neither work. In particular, I have had trouble with 650Mb CD-RW, including Traxdata. For these, I have had to resort to Nero. Nero can be used for free with your W code provided you have a...

Xfce Desktop Sounds-Reprise

On Dec4 2010, member M_Mynaardt, raised the issue of Xfce sounds in a parallel thread. Stranger than fiction, he was advised to switch on sound effects in "Appearance". I asked a supplementary: OK - did that. Then what?! "I'd like to play a short MP3 tune (in Exaile, for example) when...

OK - did that. Then what?!
I'd like to play a short MP3 tune (in Exaile, for example) when the desktop starts up.
Any chance? Does it need a script? edited into some start-up file(s)?

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

This one is very good indeed. Couldn't wait for the bespoke Xfce version so decided to run the generic Xfce desktop on top of Gnome (which I detest). Surprised by the ease and functionality of this combination which bodes well for Merlwiz' eventual masterpiece.

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

Like it! However,... ...sometimes the liveCD boot stalls and have been unable to install it yet. Stalls occur especially on my 939, onboard graphics/shared memory with 512Mb total. Guessing, not enough mem? v9 didn't have this problem. Failure to install after successful boot was also on a machine w...

Re: Linux Mint 9 Xfce released!

...Dell was an Intel graphics issue. - umm, Dell issues, Intel graphics issues? Nothing new there, then. A few possible suggestions: move from the USA (always a good idea, anyway!), never buy proprietary boxes (hire a proverbial six-year-old to build you a decent machine to a decent spec. if you're...

Re: Update Problem

Thanks for that, doc. Update manager has default settings for v9.
Strangely, this morning, the missing files auto-downloaded after a week of failure. Could it be that we prompted them to put a shilling in the gas meter?!
