Re: The verdict so far?

I'm having Intel chip issues I can't seem to figure out. They're keeping me from playing one game. Probably going to try a fresh install to see if that'll clear things up this week. Other than that, everything is awesome!

Re: Workplace Switcher applet not working

Hmm. This has never been a problem for me until LMDE. I had things set where I could use my mouse's scroll wheel or my touchpad the move seamlessly between work spaces. EDIT : OK. Seems I needed to have the cube enabled. I still can't choose how many virtual work spaces I have. I only want 3. It giv...

[SOLVED]Workplace Switcher applet not working

I mentioned in another thread that the Workplace Swicher applet wasn't working but, thought it was better to start a specific thread on the issue. In the other thread, I was having issues getting my AisleRiot card games and Compiz to work with my Intel graphics chip. We got that sorted by purging th...

Re: Mint Debian

I don't know how to make it executable so, no. I did get it working by adding just the line "compiz --replace" to startup items. Now, however, I think I've borked something else. I like to have a work space applet running in my panel. However, the one that's there has zero preferences. I.E. I...

Re: Mint Debian

I got the card games working. I also got Compiz to work by doing: compiz --replace & And, all is well...until I log out/re-boot. I saved to following in gedit and added it to start-up items but, it's not sticking: #!/bin/sh echo “Get Some” if [[ `pidof compiz` ]]; then # compiz running, nuke it. met...

Re: Mint Debian

Maybe that Intel stuff... I'm wondering if this needs to be made into a bug report or if this is something that is just a symptom of a combo of my n00bness/hardware. I'm sure I can sort it using the tools that have been provided. If it is a true bug, on the other hand, I'm wondering if I should jus...

Re: Mint Debian

bug67 you seem to have the same intel card that I have one one of my machines. To solve this problem I had to remove the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and xserver-xorg-video-nv packages then run sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. I restarted X and all was well. I don't fully understand why this works...

Re: Mint Debian

In terminal, type: "sol" (without the quotes). That's the actual command for Aisle Riot. Strange though as Aisle Riot is listed in the menu under "Games" and fires right up for me. The command path for Aisle Riot is "/usr/games/sol" by the way. If it's showing up in the menu, right-click on the ico...

Re: Mint Debian

Speaking of software, one of the first things I did was install gnome games. When I went to launch Solitaire, nothing happened. I need to investigate further. Same thing happened to me with the Aisleriot Solitaire. Please post if you figure it out. I just installed Gnome Games to see if I can dupli...

Re: Mint Debian

I think it is more useful if you tell us what the Terminal say to you when u start Solitair or something like that. Just tested Open Arena for the Drivers and that works fine. Sounds like a GDM issue? You know, you're right. I've become so GUI dependent, I didn't even think about trying to run it i...

Re: Mint Debian

I did a full install on my laptop. Man, it's quick! Everything, including wireless worked right out of the box. The installer was a bit confusing. I had to select a mount point and it took me a while to figure out how to do that but I got it. Installation took 8 minutes! I had backed up my entire ho...

Re: Can't fileshare between mint laptop and mint desktop[SOL

Thanks again for all your help. I'd like to say I'm not trying to set this up for anybody else but me to share files between my own computers. Howeverm I'm a little concerned that I checked "Share this folder", "Allow others to create and delete ...", "Guest Access". As it is, I do not require a pas...

Re: Can't file share between mint laptop and mint desktop

Thanks! :D That works. I have to share individual folders though. Is there a way I can set up to just share my entire /home/username folder? When I try, I get the error message: 'net usershare' returned error 255: net usershare add: share name myusername is already a valid system user name No biggie...

Re: Can't file share between mint laptop and mint desktop

OK... (1) Check to see if samba is running: sudo service samba status Got this: * nmbd is running * smbd is running (2) If you have configured the firewall in any way on Mint disable it. If you haven't touched it then leave it alone. No firewall. Never touched it. (3) Check the netbios name ( has to...

Can't fileshare between mint laptop and mint desktop[SOLVED]

Hello, I am at a complete loss here. Being a total n00b probably isn't helping either. I have 5 computers in my house, 4 of which connect to the internet via wireless. From my Mint (8) desktop and laptop, I can connect to and share files from both my Macs and my Win 7 PC. However, I cannot connect t...

Re: Desktop too big for monitor?

I should be able to. The GeForce card has both DVI and VGA outs. I had the 22" monitor hooked up via VGA. The TV is DVI to HDMI so, when I get home from work, I'll check it out. Thanks! :D

EDIT:

No go. I had them both running but could change anything.

Desktop too big for monitor?

First, I have no idea where I should post this. I think the problem has to do with my graphics settings but, I am clueless here. If this needs to be moved, please do so. I am running Linux Mint 8 on an old Dell XPS 400. I have it hooked up to my 52" Sony television set for an entertainment PC. My pr...

Re: Problems customizing GUI in Isadora

Well, at this point, it's all really a moot point. I finally got Helena installed on this machine (I was having monitor resolution problems at boot with Helena) so, none of the above problems exist. I did do some more digging and have discovered that ALL of my issues with Isadora are coming from ups...
