Re: Changing partition numbers

I made a partition image of Linux using CloneZilla. Linux was located on sda5 when I made the image. It originally looked like this: /sda1: Win7 (C drive) /sda2: D drive /sda5: Linux /sda6: swap I decided to wipe my entire HDD clean (everything above sda1) and repartition it differently from scratch...

Changing partition numbers

I have an image of my Linux partition that was done when it was located in sda5. I'd like to change my partition number to something more orderly like sda3, but whenever I do that my old partition image doesn't work (it was done with CloneZilla). What are my options?

Re: You can't deny that Mint 11 looks horribly dated now

Mint devs made the right call to stick with Gnome 2 for now. Unity is buggy and Gnome 3 isn't ready. Guys like t3g wouldn't complain if Mint 11 simply wasn't released, and instead we got a large update for Mint 10. But then others would have moaned that Mint broke with tradition. Can't please everyb...

Re: first time try to install, please help...

Just select manual/custom installation and make sure you set the options to this when you pick your partition (partition size can be whatever you want): http://www.dedoimedo.com/images/computers/linuxmint_partitioning_root.jpg You have to format your partition to ext3-4 and set Mount Point as / (imp...

Re: A Mint Application Panel/Taskbar

I always thought Mint's goal was to make current Linux operating systems more user-friendly and functional, not to program them from scratch, so stability is mostly in the hands of Ubuntu, Debian, etc. Mint Menu is a perfect example of what I mean. People install Mint Menu in Ubuntu and other distro...

A Mint Application Panel/Taskbar

So Mint will continue using Gnome 2, huh? It seems like most of the fuss is over the Unity/Gnome 3/Gnome 2 application panel and taskbar, not the actual environment. AWN, Docky, Cairo are pretty much the same thing (the Mac look), so I guess there is a 4th option out there, but why doesn't Mint simp...

Re: Linuxmint 11 beta's..???

Well, Ubuntu 11.4 installed and runs without any problems. It's a bit slow graphically and eats power like a *#*@% but that's expected on my laptop and Linux. I am quite impressed with it. They let you put folders and files on the desktop (yay!). One thing that bugs me is in Places it doesn't show m...

Re: Linuxmint 11 beta's..???

I don't think Mint 11 will be out as quickly after Ubuntu because Unity is a huge leap. I read horror stories about Ubuntu 11.4. Gonna try it today and see if it was worth the wait. I'm worried my notebook won't be able to handle this new OS aimed at "notebooks"...

Re: Some questions ab partitions n backup

I also use clonezilla to backup and restore linux partitions. I format the partition with gparted then restore with clonezilla. It might look intimidating at first, you'll be happy with it.

Re: Splash Screen

Sorry, My reply about the other forum was aimed at Jix. Heh, ya, I think the development team knows about the splash screen thing. No "suggestions" needed. Now it's a matter of repeating and diversifying the message so the Mint team can decide if adding a menu is worth the time and effort. If enoug...

Re: Splash Screen

The Splash thing really needs to be fixed. I know it's not a error but there needs to be a built-in option. PCLinuxOS lets you pick the boot menu screen and time it's on before installing the OS. A similar option for the splash screen (as well as the boot menu) should be available on Mint too.

Re: Ubuntu Changes, Will Linux Mint as Well?

There was something else i was reading i cant remember what it was - but it was about Ubuntu Changing something that would cause it not to be as compatible with as much hardware as it is now. I think Unity needs OpenGL to run. Most ATI cards aren't supported on Linux. They have to be emulated and t...

Heh, see how us newbs know the difference? As long as it has Mint Menu, Open as Root, all the codecs and compiz with all the extras, we'll be happy.

Re: Will Linux Mint now be Debian not Ubuntu?

I was just being the devil's advocate in my previous comment. I don't think most newbs will know or care if it runs on Ubuntu or Debian. As long as it's easy to use, clean and has all the functions it has now it will be popular. Mint by default won't disenfranchise its core users too much by changin...

Yes, it is more user-friendly now. But will it still be as user-friendly when and if it switches to Debian-only? That's the question.

Re: Simple picture editor

I'm pretty good with Photoshop but I hate Gimp. It tries to be like PS and that is its downfall. You expect all the menus and features to work the same but they don't, at least on a logical level. I'd prefer having a simpler application in its place as long as it has the following features: Various ...

Re: Future Releases (No more GNOME???)

This is the first time I've ventured out of the beginners' forum, so I'll apologize in advance if what I say makes no sense... Mint 10 is the first Linux distro I've been able to install successfully. Before this I tried Ubuntu's netbook version. I could never get the desktop to display properly; a...

Re: Linux Mint 10 KDE

Finally got around to trying it. HP nx9420 Intel Centrino T2500 ATI Radeon x1600 (xorg drivers) 1 GB SDRAM Overall it's much better than Kubuntu 10.10. Much classier and streamlined. Got a few errors during installation: - Said it couldn't detect screen resolution or video hardware. - Error in KDE D...
