Re: Installed Mint 18.1 now I cannot use battery power

Sounds like you may need a new battery. But if it worked OK under LM18, try booting into a live version and check the battery status. Ditto re the WiFi and Sound. Also Check that the BIOS upgrade didn't default to the Win profile and mess up your settings. Also check the Lenovo support site for thei...

Re: Installed Mint 18.1 now I cannot use battery power

Hi Editor321. Try installing firmware test suite and running "fwts battery". It will run through a series of interactive tests and generate a results log file. I have been using fwts to help resolve some battery thermal / charging issues on a new T460. BTW make sure you have installed the latest BIO...

Re: Mount issue with Moto E (2nd Edition) with 4G LTE

Hi TrumblebumSky. I bought a Moto E (2nd Gen) and a Moto G4 Play this week. No issues with either linking via USB to mount and read / write files from LMDE and LM17.3 The trick is to swipe down from the top left on the phone to access the USB status confirmation message. Touch for more options and s...

Re: mintinstall - what does it do?

TsuDhoNimh . There is often an extended delay after launching this app.
On my slower machines it can take 10 seconds or more before the application window appears.
Try again and wait.

Re: Upgrade hangs at 'Configuring grub-pc'

Hi ron_h. Just boot into your normal LMDE and open a terminal session. Type sudo update-grub and the grub updater will look for partitions with bootable operating systems. With luck you should see that your new LMDE2 test environment is now listed. You can then re-boot into LMDE2 and check that all ...

Re: Upgrade hangs at 'Configuring grub-pc'

ron_h. Not sure why the grub update step is failing in your upgrade, but as I remember it was the last step in the process.
Have you tried booting into your main LMDE and running update-grub from there ?

Re: 'betsy-partner' channel problem downloading flash

Mark. I had the same issue over the weekend in LMDE2, but strangely not in LM17.2. The Band-aid fix is to download the "other distro" pack from the adobe site and do a manual replace of the libflashlayer.so file into the relevant directories. Make sure you only replace the instances, not any of the ...

Re: Firefox and Opera crash

Not sure if it is the same issue, but on a fresh install of LMDE2 today, neither Firefox or Thunderbird would launch. Tracked the issue down to a permissions problem on the /home/user/.gnome2 directory. The installer had set it as owned and only accessible by root, instead of the user. Changing the ...

Hello greenwoodforest. Try the install instructions on the PIA web site. https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/pages/client-support/#ubuntu_openvpn_installer If you have already successfully installed the network-manager-openvpn, you should be able to right click on the network manager " edit connec...

Re: openvpn connect, but no internet access

If your new OpenVPN service is indicating it's connected, but your browser is timing out. It could be that your DNS cache just needs clean out.
As suggested by others, I have used both of the following with success.

Code: Select all

sudo /etc/init.d/nscd restart
or

Code: Select all

sudo /etc/init.d/dns-clean start

N9234576. Forget the installer. Just download and unzip the list of PIA location profiles and certificates from the support site. Install OpenVPN Client from the repositories. Then "add a new connection" and select "import a saved VPN configuration" Select a location from your downloaded un-zipped l...

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad S10 wifi

Hi Lego. I have two S10-3's. One running LMDE the other LM17.1 Mate. WiFi on both work OK.
Try the easy fixes first. Check that WiFi is enabled in the bios. Then try toggling the Fn + F5 key to enable Wireless.

Re: Mint on a 4GB HDD

theeyan. You could also try CrunchBang. I have not played with the HP device you are using but have installed Linux on a number of thin clients (many) years ago. I think I would up the memory to a min of 4Gb and check the BIOS for specific options for the network connection. Some of the settings may...

Re: Chronic mouse freezing - inadvertently resolved

Hi gkmcd. You would have to take a look at the chip set, bus architecture and Linux Kernel to really figure out what happened. My guess is that the file transfer was given highest priority of the available resources, not already allocated to the Desktop functions. I am guessing that for what ever re...

Re: Wired printer can't be connected to over wifi?

Hi Alan. It sounds like you have configured the printer LAN connection, but not the WLAN connection.
Use the printer admin interface to check the status of the WLAN.
Also may be worth checking the printer manual to see if both network interfaces can be used at the same time.

Re: Chronic mouse freezing - inadvertently resolved

Hi gkmcd. As richyrich said. Not a good idea to use your desktop to dump large volumes. The symptom you are seeing is basic resource contention between your internal hardware bridges, spanning the USB controllers and the SATA controllers. Probably caused by a shortage of available memory. Let us kno...
