Re: GNOME 3 in Mint 11

Hi All, I ran the sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 line in terminal server, all seemed to go well. How do I activate gnome 3? I dont find it under my themes. thanks AB It's not a them and adding the repositories doesn't automatically add Gnome3 First if you haven't already open that t...

Re: Please improve the Mint customized FF Google search page

Honestly, installing upstream Firefox was easier for me than dicking around with finding a Google search plugin Might not be all that much easier, but that's exactly what I did with my last few Mint installations, almost immediately after installing. Especially if you have the sense to search for G...

Re: Your take on Intellectual Property

Is it ethical or just to own ideas and intangible things? How is your opinion motivated? religion, philosophy, reasoning, law ... etc I think to an extent is bogus. There are degrees though, I do believe in protecting things that qualify as art, and design. I don't believe in people using the conce...

Re: You can't deny that Mint 11 looks horribly dated now

Unity looks like its trying to be a smartphone or tablet OS, and Gnome Shell looks like its trying to copy unity to stay relevant. There was nothing wrong with gnome. If you think it looks boring, just install compiz, or use KDE! Gnome Shell copying Unity? Erm. that's the other way around. Unity wa...

[quote="sjonesy" I never cared for compiz basically do to its being a resource hog anyway. If you like things to look pretty , fine, then thats ok, but I'd rather have things look and react like I expect them to. One commonality to all of this seems to be that one mans progress is another ...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

Once again nothing special, just decided to Scify up the desktop a bit.... http://i46.removed/albums/f111/Cronjo/Scifidesktop.png Took a Conky I found on Gnome-look.org and modified it to have a Scify feel, and added a ping check for my favourite MMO's so I know before I try to login if the servers ...

Re: Adobe Air

Yea I didn't know Adobe was dropping support for it, I think Air is a great concept though, it makes deployment of cross-platform software easier. I'm going to back up the 64-bit .deb I built for when Mint Updates, I'll keep installing it until well until it doesn't work anymore :P

Adobe Air

We already get Adobe Flash plugins installed by default, is it possible for us to get Adobe Air as well in future Mint Versions. There are a few great popular apps out there that require it such as Destroy Twitter, and friendfeed. Since Gwibber isn't installed by default, and you have to repack Adob...

Re: You can't deny that Mint 11 looks horribly dated now

As for Gnome 3, fortunately the patches and gconf tweaks are coming fast and furious, and I believe that by the time Mint adopts Gnome 3 you will be able to change it into anything you want as well. Yeah it's coming along nicely... One thing I noticed though, is the Shell Theme selector extension w...

Re: You can't deny that Mint 11 looks horribly dated now

I think we could better say: Don't force us to use the Shell or a buggy desktop. Gnome 3 classic/fall-back mode is not bad at all, it just needs some bugs to be removed before Mint could use it. (But please leave Unity and Gnome Shell in the repository for those who really want one of them, to prov...

3)The attitudes of a large portion of the Linux Communities (Since Chrome OS is Linux based) members will have to change. Many of us view Proprietary, and for Profit software as something "Bad" to be used as little as possible, others think it goes against the spirit of GNU and the FOSS m...

Re: Poll: Will Linux Mint overtake Ubuntu and/or even Window

I realize that at this point Chrome isn't all that interesting... but imagine if Google decided to go toe to toe with MS in the OS market... with the resources they command, they could quickly turn Chrome OS into a distro (force) to be reckoned with... and with increasing market share for Linux com...

Re: Poll: Will Linux Mint overtake Ubuntu and/or even Window

I can see Mint overtaking Ubuntu in popularity eventually, but not Windows. Windows has something no other OS has, large numbers of commercial developers coding 3rd party applications for their system, and no matter how much we'd like to we can't separate Mint from the reasons commercial development...

Re: You can't deny that Mint 11 looks horribly dated now

Windows has paid people who have made the look of Win XP to 7. And at Mint you get it for free. This is sort of comparing apples and oranges. But anyway, if we'd post a call for designers on the forum we'd soon get great themes for Mint. Themes for both Gnome 3 Shell and Unity would be awesome Gnom...
