Re: Thanks for Sticking with GNOME 2 for Now

Gnome are deliberately aiming not to be flexible - I think it's a fundamental philosophy rather than growing pains. Gnome 3 is much more flexible now than Gnome 2, it's just people haven't harnessed the potential of that flexibility yet. With Gnome 2 you had to have Compiz, Beryl, or what ever you ...

Re: Gnome3

For me the experience has been pretty good, I've been using Gnome 3/Shell for the past few days and I'm loving it.

The extensions feature is a great new tool for development by 3rd parties and individuals.

Re: install windows game on linux.

What version of WINE you have installed can be a factor as well, also look into winetricks, to installing things like Direct X in WINE, makes the process much easier. Here's the page for the latest expansion on Lineage II on Wine HQ http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=15...

Re: Thanks for Sticking with GNOME 2 for Now

I've come to grips with the fact that Gnome 2 is going away. The idea that someone may fork it and keep it going is, of course, unrealistic. Look at Trinity for KDE 3. It has gone nowhere fast. So I am using openSUSE KDE now for one of my distros. It uses less resources than Kubuntu, and is much mo...

Re: Thanks for Sticking with GNOME 2 for Now

Nexus, as I already said about extensions, I do not think they solve the problems. And even the fact of a need for extensions for having a somewhat usable (even if not for me) desktop is idiot. Oh and a "tablet OS" on PC? Horror! No thanks. Never for me. With this kind of thing, and also ...

Are there any glaring bugs in the ppa?
I haven't had any issues myself, and yea I installed a few extensions. Mainly to make theme applying easier.

Re: Why did you switch to linux mint?

I was shown linux for the first time about 5 years ago when I tried, Arch Linux at the urging of a friend, it didn't sit well with me so I continued on with Windows until I stumbled on Ubuntu Studio about 2 years ago. I tried it, and liked it for the most part but found it to be a bit bloated for my...

Re: Thanks for Sticking with GNOME 2 for Now

Nexus, I hate compiz and such so I don't use it. where are people going to turn? To Unity, KDE, Gnome 3 with or without the Shell? Unfortunately, the Linux desktop is currently in a bad shape and I'm afraid about the future, really... I'll say KDE. and maybe a little XFCE although it is always &quo...

Re: Thanks for Sticking with GNOME 2 for Now

"Shell Extensions" (...) Java Script Just two horrendous and horrible words... And as I have already said, I do not think they solve the problems. The change is too radical... I'm not a Java Script fan myself, but it is very popular, and it means that the extensions will be easier to writ...

Re: Thanks for Sticking with GNOME 2 for Now

My thanks to the Linux Mint team for sticking with GNOME 2 for now. I put Fedora 15 on a stick and gave it a spin. It is really, really pretty, but the looks come at the expense of some functionality. I didn't care for the window switcher. I switch windows a lot, and I like being able to throw my m...

Re: You can't deny that Mint 11 looks horribly dated now

It looks the same as Mint 10, which was released half a year ago and the default look of this distro is starting to really look its age. I know that the team hates Unity and wants to move to Gnome 3, but Gnome 3 looks worse and has less functionality than Unity. Can the Mint team at least try to em...

Re: What will be default Desktop in linux Mint 12

I installed Gnome 3 w/ Gnome Shell on my Mint 11 install, I've been keeping up with Gnome 3 and hope it's put into Mint 12 either with or without the Gnome Shell (possibly an at install option would be nice). Though it is different it's still not an awful experience and since it's release there have...

Re: Mint 11 - ALSA instead of Pulse Audio

Hello, Does anyone know how to switch from pulse to alsa in Mint 11? Will how-to for Linux Mint 10 work? My subwoofer isnt working with pulseaudio at all, but with ALSA is working like a charm. :-) Funny I have the opposite problem, my sound card doesn't like to work well with ALSA for some reason,...

Re: Mangler anyone?

Thanks just added that to my setup. Still I'd like to see it added to all versions of Mint by default, it's honestly one of the best pieces of software available of it's type. I use it on my Desktop, and use the Android release on my phone...nice to be able to chat up my gaming buddies while sitting...

Mangler anyone?

Mangler is a Linux Native Ventrilo client, while I know not everyone games on a Linux Box there are quite a few of us that do and belong to gaming groups that use Ventrilo as a means of communication. Mangler used to do deb packages but have dropped the practice in favour of asking users to do their...

Re: Would Linux be more popular with LESS choice?

Linux is free and arguably better than Windows, so why is its desktop popularity so pathetic low after all of these years? Images and charts removed for simplicity I firmly believe that the insane amount of choice Linux offers is, on the whole, hurting its popularity and Linux would benefit from ha...

Re: Linux Mint 10 KDE released!

I set up a new partition and installed the KDE edition in it to give it a try, I like it, had a few audio quirks that went away when I removed ALSA (it doesn't like my soundcard), other than that I'm pleased, I might just remove my GNOME install and put KDE edition as the only one on the drive.
