Re: Goodbye Ubuntu Netbook Edition Maverick, hello Jolicloud
Apparently even the Jolicloud developers feel that the EULA (TOS) needs "clarification" http://getsatisfaction.com/jolicloud/topics/would_like_some_clarification_on_the_jolicloud_eula Looks pretty clear to me... Of course, we do not have access to the content you create from applications ...

Well if you don't give them the right to [insert generic legal jargon] with your data then how do you expect them to provide the service? It's merely common sense... I dont believe it "common sense" to allow any third party the right to use any personal document I place on my computer in ...

Re: Goodbye Ubuntu Netbook Edition Maverick, hello Jolicloud
I tried Jolicloud 1.1 on an old Vaio and thought it suited me fine but then I read the Terms of Service a part of which I quote below You hereby grant to Jolicloud a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, sublicensable and transferable license to: (i) reproduce, modify and p...

Re: What are you most dissatisfied with in Linux Mint?
No community involvement in testing, not even virtual testing. NB. Virtual Testing = Send out alpha, beta and release candidiate iso's, set up forum topic something like 'testing version bug reports' then ignore everything that is written there. It is the model that most distros use, but it gives t...

Donations and Expenses
I am just posing the question here as a possible "nice to know" and as a balance to the monthly blog list of donors. Do the community want to see a list of monthly "expenses" in order to create a crude "balance sheet" with the donations blog ? This is not some accountan...

Re: Removing boot splash in Linux Mint 9.
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU coreli...

Re: nautilus-script-audio-convert 0.3.1.1-0ubuntu5
I have installed the above script using synaptic and it shows as being installed, but it does not show in the nautilus menu and is also not in ~.gnome2/nautilus/scripts folder Any idea why this wont work in Mint Isadora, used to work in previous versions :? For those interested found the solution h...

Re: Sony Laptop has reverted to 800x600 res
Hi dawgdoc and thanks for your interest I have managed a workaround without resorting to generating an xorg.conf file For interests sake this is what I carried out. Carried out some man xrandr searches and confirmed that the monitor could handle 1024x768 xrandr --query Used synaptic to install a pro...

Re: Sony Laptop has reverted to 800x600 res
As I said there are no proprietary drivers available for this card, and there were no updates associated with video or Xorg. What I really need is a copy of an Xorg.conf file that will force the 1024x768 res on this card. What terminal commands do I need to run to find out which driver is being used...

Software manager errors on Mint 9
Just installed Mint 9 on a Sony Vaio laptop which had been running Ubuntu 10.4 and previously Mint Helena and I seem to have found a problem with the mint software manager. Overall the software manager takes an age to load on this old machine - like 25 secs - and does not seem to drag in dependancie...
