Re: Wireless connected ok in cafe now (but no printer found)

I've been through the tutorial, didn't appreciate that section was there, sorry) and through Samba there are "no print shares". My Firewall is disabled at present. Using CUPS it's the same deal, printer sharing is enabled etc etc. The printer itself is switched on next to me. I might put the documen...

Wireless connected ok in cafe now (but no printer found).

Hiya, sorry to disturb. I'm in an internet cafe trying to make a connection with their printer. I'm connected wirelessly. The guy working here suggests i get hold of Bonjour (Apple's zero-configuration networking app I understand). Surely there's a method already built in to this? I'm using Helena I...

Re: Netgear WG111T 108Mbs Wireless USB Adaptor

Thanks. Ok i followed the above threads and installed the drivers as outlined. It took me a little while as the following Terminal extract will confirm. Further along I also followed a similar procedure to install a friends Belkin USB adaptor but with similar results. Something, somewhere must be di...

Netgear WG111T 108Mbs Wireless USB Adaptor

Hello again good people. Ok, I plug this in and for the briefest of seconds the tiny blue light on it flickers once but the device may as well be turned off after that, nothing at all. The same is sometimes true when I unplug it but i've slept since then and I might even be making it up (I don't hav...

Re: Full version wine doors

Thanks remoulder and others, i'll post in the other section for the WIFI problem. It strikes me that the 'all.deb' alternatives contain most of the files I need simply because i can right click on them and use package manager to attempt an install, all the others from the repository only open in the...

Re: Full version wine doors

I have a wireless USB adptor and the software to install it (from Netgear) but the exe file is read as an archive in linux etc etc so it looks like i need wine to be able to install the wireless adaptor, which i need to be up and running to install wine etc etc and i'm caught in a vicious circle. I'...

Re: Full version wine doors

No that's fair enough, thanks, didn't want to sound mardy but prob came accross that way. Ok,I can grab all the wine files and then all the wine-doors files too and install them both that way i guess? Eitherway, i'll spend next week reading the Mint manual just to get into a Linux mind set, really e...

Re: Full version wine doors

Thanks.

I don't doubt for a minute that the above reply has been getting big laughs, nice one. But i'd already tried a couple of those and an internet connection was always prompted. This was how i knew to ask for one that wasn't you see.

Cheers anyway, I'll read a few manuals

Full version wine doors

Hiya, thanks, totally new here but this section seemed more apt than the newbie one. Mods please move if needed. I'm trying to install Wine-doors but during the package install the software needs to download other files via the internet. Sadly the computer i'm installing on is standalone with no int...

Re: Fallen at the first fence! BIOS fun

Hiya, thanks, I think how casual my tone was came accross as accusatory, which wasn't the intention.

It's clear, looking back, and especially after researching a little more just how new i am to all this.

Points taken, thanks again.

Tablet PC

Hiya, now i'm all up and running and bowled over with LinuxMint, i wondered if anyone knew if there was a Tablet PC edition (which enables my 'drawing on screen' with the pen etc). This would be really handy as I could put it on my work tablet as well as my home desktop.

many thanks

Re: Fallen at the first fence! BIOS fun

Many thanks for your replies, excellent. I still think there's validity stating it on the download page as there's no way quite a lot of people will consult a manual before downloading. If anything, if a manual was needed prior to downloading it would put people off. Another poster in this thread al...

Re: Fallen at the first fence! BIOS fun

Excellent, just installed "ISO Recorder" and after all that it doesn't recognise blank dvd's, only cd's, of which i don't have any.

It's the little things like this that cause the most frustration, trying again with another program shortly.

Re: Fallen at the first fence! BIOS fun

I guess on this tack, to save other people the frustrations i had, is it worth putting a "Don't burn the CD within a windows program, it won't work, use this one....." on the download page? I imagine many more people may fall for this in future. To be fair the whole range of linux stuff, at first gl...

Re: Fallen at the first fence! BIOS fun

Thanks guys, that makes a lot of sense. It pretty much is a data cd then and i'll re-burn. thanks. I installed a program called MobaLiveCD which mounted the image but the results were apalling. http://mobalivecd.mobatek.net/en/ After the countdown the LM icon appeared for five minutes, then a furthe...

Re: Fallen at the first fence! BIOS fun

fair enough, good points, thanks. There's a full ISO on the disk when i check in windows explorer so i have to assume it's burned correctly i guess..?

I'll get the specifics, i'm not 100% with that pc, anything you'd need other than the basics from windows-system?

thanks

[SOLVED] Fallen at the first fence! BIOS fun

Hello folks, hope all's well. I made a boot disk and the like but the problem is my cd (and dvd) doesn't want to read on bootup, even after changing boot priorities in BIOS. The drives work fine when in windows etc. The light from the cd/dvd drive(s) only come on if i disable the hard drive outright...
