Re: Five reasons for what I'm leaving Linux Mint

So the choices he has are. 1) Live with it 2) Buy another machine. This doesn't seem very encouraging. I've been a mint user since Mint 8 and I had a lot of problems at first, wifi cards etc were a nightmare (I remember something about the "b43" packages or something). I can't think why this user is...

Re: Startmail / private email

Thanks for the replies. Yes I'm registered as a beta tester also. I like the Thunderbird option but it's problemmatic at the other end etc as you may imagine. I'm one of those people "with nothing to hide" but I support the sentiment and I'm keen to help. "So why don't you pay then?" I may do, I jus...

Startmail / private email

Does anyone know of an email service along the lines of the new Startmail service but one that's free. Theirs is $5/month which is fair enough but over time that's going to start to hurt. They have a promo vid on Youtube etc (and of course beta testing is free) but I'd have thought in the wake of th...

Re: GStarCAD not AutoCAD - has anybody used it?

Ah. Word of warning, it's now taking a LONG time to boot and this is an SSD. It was very close to more or less Autocad 2013 running in linux then. Nearly. I've tried to remedy the boot problem in this order. As this is the reverse of what i did. Disabled compiz and Cairo. Same. Removed gstarcad. Sam...

Re: <SOLVED> GStarCAD not AutoCAD - has anybody used it?

Maybe this thread should be moved as it turned into a diagnostic really? Sorry about that. GStarCAD works in WINE by the way but the Ribbon bar flickers etc and it's glitchy in that respect. Although this laptop is useless (I'm not at work at present). Other CAD users PLEASE give this a go and see i...

<SOLVED> Re: GStarCAD not AutoCAD - has anybody used it?

This worked a charm. Maybe all of the other dependencies I installed from the other thread helped who knows, but this was a great tutorial.

Sorry, I didn't even see it at first!

Re: GStarCAD not AutoCAD - has anybody used it?

Many thanks for your help gents. For DraftSight I followed the link to the other thread as mentioned. The final post in the thread seemed to contain most of what I needed but I'm still not quite there. I ran: sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture DraftSight.deb (it's actually draftSight.deb looking at t...

Re: GStarCAD not AutoCAD - has anybody used it?

During install of Draftsight in Mint, a problemmatic thing it seems, I can't get over the missing dependency: "Error: Cannot install 'libdirectfb-extra:i386'" I'm using an Dell AMD setup and I've followed other threads but no luck. How did you guys get a successful install? Did you force install? Re...

Re: GStarCAD not AutoCAD - has anybody used it?

Great responses thanks, I'll have a look at Draftsight for sure (GStarCAD doesn't run native).

EDIT: Just had an in depth look and GStarCAD is by far the better of the two (in terms of CAD familiarity and functionality/look etc) but for 2D both seem fine. I'll try it under WINE at some point though.

GStarCAD not AutoCAD - has anybody used it?

At first glance it seems the PERFECT solution/replacement for AutoCAD. It recognises the same commands etc and uses .dwg file format by default. I can't find it mentioned at WineHQ and I'll see what the vendor has to say about it running Native. Does anybody use this, happy? Just asking. Thanks http...

I'd forgotten how awful it was.

I've been a mint user since mint 8 and last night i was reminded why i took the plunge. Standalone install, no internet. Having to use Revit means I've no choice but to use windows. Took linux off to install windows 7 native then put linux back on dual boot. Took ages to install. vga awful resolutio...

Expand all directories/one level in Nautilus

Hiya, I have looked around for this and know that the * key (or the SHIFT + Left/Right arrow keys) work but it only does it one directory at a time. I have 483 directories to expand (ideally by only one level and not fully). Selecting all and hitting * doesn't do it either, pity. Any clues? I have N...

[SOLVED] Increase number of SMS texts imported into Gammu

Indeed it works. In terminal: sudo gammu getallsms Set terminal to "unlimited" character scrollback first though (then highlight and paste the results into Writer or other editor). In Writer, using wildcards, you can then select blank spaces and cumbersome header info etc and remove it all, just lea...

[SOLVED] Increase number of SMS texts imported into Gammu

Hi all. Using Gammu with an old school phone to retrieve texts (Nokia PC Suite is ok for a few texts but I have 2500) Trouble is I can only seem to import 190 at a time, then go into the phone and select 190 (separately) then delete etc. Is there a parameter or some such in Gammu that can adjust the...

Great release gang. I can't help thinking of LM12 as a bit of a "Vista" nowadays.

Well done!
