Re: alternatives to /home?

That is achieved by the traditional / and /home setup Only if I duplicated the /usr and /usr/local hierarchies in my /home/ username hierarchy and went putting 'make --prefix=/home/ username ' or changing every makefile of every package I install from source in order to have nothing personal under ...

Re: alternatives to /home?

Basically a /home is created in / When you opt not to have a separate /home partition What does that mean? AFAIK, a home partition isn't created by default: you have to prepare your disk, then, at installation, ask the installer to mount the partition you set aside at /home/ username . Are you sayi...

In the update manager go to : Edit > Software Sources
And edit out/remove the one: h**p//download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jgeboski/xUbuntu_17.1/Packages

Re: To GPT or not to GPT, That is the Question?

Personally I prefer dd to clonzilla
And myself, typically I would copy the entire hdd
If you use ionice ddrescue it will prevent any hiccups if there are bad sectors

Re: Cannot boot Mint 17.2 - Only Memtest runs

Yes .. I do have the 17.2 on DVD (iso). However, when I comes to using the terminal I am at a complete loss. As for the other option(s), I do have Gparted but can't use it if I can't run Mint. I do not have Parted Magic (at least not yet). I do have any clue about what to do after "chroot". Sorry. ...

Re: Cannot boot Mint 17.2 - Only Memtest runs

Do you have the original 17.2 install media? You use that to boot a live session and use chroot to access the installed system Do you understand what I am suggesting? Or do you need step by step? Other options are, if you have say: Parted Magic (which incorporates SuperGrubDisk), which may find your...

AcetoneISO and ISOMaster can make/edit etc .iso's So we can assume the original .iso written to the usb is about 100MB from what you were saying? All those files should be readable in a file manager But what did you use to write the .iso? As that can impact on the entire content Is it not possible t...

Re: Windows slows down, when Win7 is booting AFTER Mint live

Sounds like a Windows problem to me
I can't really see Mint being involved, especially a Live system.

Just to be clear.
If you power off and then power on (rather than reboot) is there an issue?

Re: Mint Doesn't Recognize All RAM

Are both modules identical

If you examine each one individually as a 4GB unit in the machine
Do they both worth OK as stand alone units
