As I understand it
With Ubuntu 14.04.1 is LTS to 2019

With Mint, I believe .1 or .2 or .3 are all LTS to 2019. But I'll happily be corrected

Each version of Mint is currently based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

You can of course test each version Live from a USB

But so far, I have found each to be very stable

Everything you want is common and I agree. Sounds like you should install Mint

But you can change the Close and Minimise buttons
And there is a application that can be added to setup a panel at the bottom, but the one at the top must remain

Probably windows isn't configured to SHUTDOWN properly. Actually since Windows 8 this has been the default in windows, that when you shutdown, it actually doesn't, not properly. If you google this, you will find plenty of help. This leaves the Partition for windows in a state that is basically still...

Guests can't make use of a GPU such as nvidia and the implementation of said GP and audio will vary. You need to examine the VB settings in the guest machine to see how it is being implemented.

Most routers already provide a hardware firewall that is far better and basically makes redundant a software firewall.
