Re: vlc look ugly in linux mint xfce 2011.04

You can control the looks of Qt apps by qt4-qtconfig you can find it in the Software Manager or use the command line: sudo apt-get install qt4-qtconfig Then you'll find it in: Menu -> Settings -> Qt 4 Settings If you want qt apps to use the same theme as your gtk apps: Select GUI Style: GTK+ File ->...

Re: Installation hangs near end-Mint 10 XFCE

I don't think that your issue is related to lack of memory. Sounds like a problem with GRUB. I think you have a better chance to get a good answer in the LMDE section of the forum, or maybe even in the Debian forums.

Re: Thunar is acting a bit odd

M_Mynaardt, this is a known bug in the Mint-X theme. Change to a different theme, and you'll be fine.

By the way the bug is not in Thunar, it also happens with files on the desktop. In Xfce the desktop is not managed by thunar but by xfdesktop).

Re: Some issues with XFCE Debian

1. I did a "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade" and it went fine. The updates notification icon still showed that there are psudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgradeackages to be upgraded, so when I tried upgrading through this I got the error message: "Could not apply changes. Fix brok...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

I do not like the grey metal appearance of the desktop so I changed to black and changed the theme to to Redmond. The grey is too light and lacks contrast for my 85 year old eyes. phil, I think your problem may also be related to fact that there is a big difference in font rendering between Ubuntu ...

Re: Applications not appearing in mintMenu

By the way, I see that there are other bugs in mint menu on Xfce. For example Thunar does not start when you click on "Computer" or "Home". I bet it is looking for Nautilus. but I guess this is why Clem did not use it as a default.

Re: Applications not appearing in mintMenu

You need to install alacarte sudo apt-get install alacarte Alacrate is not installed by default in Xfce because it can't edit the Xfce menu. However the new Xfce 4.8 fixes the problem and alacarte will work on it, so in future versions of Mint Xfce you may see it installed by default (or there will ...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

I noticed that start up ram usage is 115mb on the 32 bit and 190mb on the 64 bit That's why I never install 64-bit. But 2GB are enough for me, so no real need in 64 bit. I do not like the grey metal appearance of the desktop so I changed to black and changed the theme to to Redmond. The grey is too...

Re: Why not merge with LMDE?

Makes a lot of sense to me as most of it is Gnome anyway, they didn't even change the icon for the file manager from Nautilus to Thunar True. this is another small bug in the LMDE Xfce theme, but I think it's the Faenza icon theme to blame. It actually has an icon for Thunar (look for it in the set...

Re: Linux Mint Xfce RC (201104) released!

Location: Here again :) Welcome back. We all wish you well. Merlwiz, I guess that in LMDE Xfce Clem is trying to use Xfce as a viable alternative to Gnome, just in case Gnome 3 leaves Mint without it's main desktop environment. This explains the application choice (gedit and grome terminal, f-spot ...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

Um... guys? It's a release candidate that came out yesterday morning. Please, chill out a little bit, and stop throwing rocks. I realize that we all want this version to be prefect, but it's not fully baked yet. We should say "thanks" to Clem for letting us play with his sand-castle on the beach, k...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

a few thoughts on this release... 1. I'm having the same issues as others as far as the right-click in the Mint-X themes. Works fine with other themes. 2. I can't get the cursor to change to black. It only shows over FF. 3. VLC has all sorts of issues and ends up locking up the guest, I've tried se...

Re: XFCE10

My problem with XFCE mint debian is that it uses gnome apps like gedit, brasero. XFCE is designed for being light weight. I really though that the ISO of LMDX (Linux Mint Debian Xfce) will be lighter compared to LMDE. I am sure most people would be comparing Clem's version of xfce with that of Merl...

First of all - please don't think for a second that I'm trying to contradict you in any way... It's just that I'm having a bit of a problem wrapping my head around this. (Daddy, daddy, why is the sky blue?) No worries :) So - what you're saying that I get the same result installing LMDE Gnome versi...

Re: From Gnome to XFCE... is there a "quick & easy" way?

If you look in the Mint Debian repositories, you will see that there are already a number of xfce-specific packages including a mint-meta-xfce. Although I haven't seen an official announcement for the release of Mint Debian Xfce, everything is there. Ok, could be interesting... but: Wouldn't that j...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

Well, here is another tweak for LMDE Xfce (Clem, I hope you read this forum thread...) This time we will make sure that the labels of desktop icons have no background. sudo apt-get install mintdesktop-xfce mintconfig-xfce Now go to: Menu -> Settings -> Xfce Control Center in the "Desktop" tab click ...

Re: XFCE10

I must apologise for my terrible posting which started this thread. It was a real jumble and it's a wonder anyone understood it! What I meant to say was that at the end of last year, Merlwiz was building a Ubuntu-based Mint10 XFCE using XFCE 4.8. But because of all the problems he and his wi...
