Re: From Gnome to XFCE... is there a "quick & easy" way?

I'm sure there will be a meta-package for the mint xfce desktop. All you'll need to do is apt-get install it and you'll have xfce along side gnome. Why bother to reinstall everything from square one?

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

If you like the Mint-X theme, you may want to use a matching windows decoration rather than the default Xfce 4.6 (I actually like it, but it does look a little old). (1) Download this: http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php/elementary+xfwm4?content=137959 (2) Extract (3) copy the folder into /home/"u...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

i noticed that if you'll try to add some wallpapers in Desktop settings ,only one will remain after you close . where are all the wallpapers "going" ? Xfce wallpapers are saved in /usr/share/xfce4/backdrops so you can put the images there To put files in this folder you'll have to be root (in Thuna...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

the volume in the taskbar resets to 0 on reboot even when I had the "automatically save session on logout" option on under the xfce settings>session and startup. wonder how I can report bugs? This is the Gnome mixer applet, so saving the Xfce session should not have an effect. You can use the Xfce ...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

One annoyance to me: with file manager open, right clicking of a file or folder usually pop up a windows for selection such as Open with, copy, delete, rename, etc and window will stay on on this RC, once I release right button, the windows pop up disappear. so I got to hold the right button.. coul...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

I'm trying it now on VirtualBox. It seems to work fine so far, but it is still too early for me to have conclusions about performance. My main impression is that this is truly Clem's work, very different from the typical Melwiz style. The default apps are identical to those in the main edition, some...

Re: Xfce 9 incredibly slow / problems with Virtualbox?

Thanks for the reply. What type of hardware are you using? Specifically, amount of ram, video card and driver, plus cpu? I'm wondering if the way this bridge game works is just a very unusual and graphics intensive form. Maybe I should just set it up on Win98 Virtualmachine. Motherboard: Gigabyte G...

Re: Gnome -> Xfce with neverball

I think the most likely reason for the difference is compiz. In Gnome try to turn compiz off, and I think you'll find the performance is as good as in Xfce.

Re: Xfce 9 incredibly slow / problems with Virtualbox?

I'm using VirtualBox on Xfce 9, and theres no problem here. It's VirtualBox 4.0.4 from this ppa: http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian

Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

It seems that Clem has just approved the Debian Xfce Edition for RC release:
http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/59
And there's a 64 bit version too:
http://community.linuxmint.com/iso/view/60

I'm going to try it as soon as it hits the download servers :)

Re: XFCE10

I must admit I didn't think Mint Debian Xfce would become reality so soon, but Clem seems to be determined - he already has a second ISO built (with a 64 bit version as well), and they both passed more than 90% of the test. This is very exciting. If everything works well, this can be a great distro ...

Re: XFCE10

Keithp, Mint Debian does not have version numbers like 9 or 10, It is a rolling release. Mint Xfce based on Ubuntu is developed by Merlwiz. Unfortunately Merlwiz has some problems in his life, so we the Mint Xfce users don't mind having release dates later than other Mint versions. In fact Mint Xfce...

Re: Debian XFCE4

The news about Mint Xfce based on Debian are very exciting. If everything goes well, it's going to be a great distro. I think it has a potential to be popular among power users.

Re: Menu title change

Hi frinholp,

I don't think this problem is unique to Mint, I've seen it happening in other distros with Xfce. You can right click the menu and change it back manually.

Re: Can Dropbox (& Nautilus) work in XFCE?

For the next time you need to install Dropbox on Xfce, I think that this site has very good instructions:

http://www.olpcnews.com/forum/index.php?topic=4664.0

In addition you may want to try the Thunar Dropbox plugin:

Re: firefox sucks

I had lots of problems with Firefox during the years, but never found a good replacement that I could stick with for a while. In recent years Firefox was legging back in speed and performance, but the Add-ons ecosystem remained irreplaceable and a great example for the goodness of open source. But n...

Re: Remove Xubuntu Panel Settings?

I almost forgot to answer the question...

the panel settings are in:

Code: Select all

/home/username/.config/xfce4/panel
if you'll replace this folder with the same folder from a new user, you'll recover the default settings of the Xfce panel in Mint

Re: Remove Xubuntu Panel Settings?

This is exactly why I stopped using a separate partition for /home. think about it, /home contains two very different things: your data files and your system settings. While you want to keep your data files, when installing a new distro you expect to have new settings. Maybe there are some settings ...

Re: Just saying Hi and asking some really daft questions!

Hexeta, if you mange to get the Live CD running, go to the main menu, and under "internet" look for Xchat. this will open a window with two chat rooms #linuxmint-chat and #linuxmint-help. you are more likely to get real-time help in these chats. good luck!
