Re: Xfce 10 Julia Development

Merlwiz, the things that modern medicine can do are amazing - joint replacement was something of science fiction not too many years ago. We all hope that your wife will not have to endure pain and that her health will improve. I agree with Robin - Mint 9 Xfce is the best distro I ever used. I was us...

Re: Really low volume

Hi,

I had the same problem but in Xfce. After reading this I found that PCM, which has not been on my default controls, was 50%. Thanks for posting this.

Re: The Desktop just stopped working...

It looks like something is wrong with your xfdesktop. try to restart it by opening a terminal windows and:

Code: Select all

killall xfdesktop
if it doesn't restart automatically (the desktop remains grey), run it manually:

Code: Select all

xfdesktop
tell us if it works or not.

Re: Brasero + ISO support

The only caveat is to install it using the Mint Software Manager, not the Package Manager. The Package Manager seems to bring in half the KDE desktop just to install K3b. Software Manager just installs the dependencies that are needed to run K3b. Is that true for other applications as well? I alway...

Re: Automount USB storage

moris, have you installed Linux Mint 9 Xfce, or did you just start it from a Live CD? I think there was a bug in the Live CD, and I'm not sure it was fixed for the official resale.

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC

I tried the RC live CD (on a usb flash drive) and it looks very slick and faster then ever. I'm surprised that the RC is ready so soon - had the impression that it will take another week. I'm still with 8 on my main computer (9 on the netbook), and was making backups yesterday to make room for 9. No...

Re: Mint vs ubuntu & newbie

Larry, all the different flavors of Linux can be interesting to the curious mind, but for a newcomer I suggest using a distro and desktop that are common. You seem to be happy with Mint, and since it is a well known distro, go ahead and use it. In fact Mint is one of the best (if not the best) optio...

Re: Mint vs ubuntu & newbie

Hi Larry, Welcome to the forum. I was using an very old computer as my main desktop until a year ago. It was a 2002 Pentium 4 1800MHz CPU with 512MB RAM. I found that it worked much faster with Xfce rather then Gnome, and I got used to it so much that I'm now using Xfce even with a relatively new an...

Hi Guy,

I also started with Ubuntu on 2006, and decided to switch to Mint earlier this year. I agree that mint is the most polished Linux distro out there. The developers are just great.

Re: how to install vista while using linux mint 8

If you are trying to extract the files from anything other than a legally purchased copy of Windows Vista, you are committing a crime. Vista is copyright protected and attempting to acquire it without paying for it is copyright violation and theft. If this is what you are attempting, please do not ...

this doesn't sound like a difficult thing to do. something like this should do the work: #!/bin/bash # Script for uninstalling and installing stuff # Run it as root # Retrieve new lists of packages apt-get update # Install new packages apt-get install lxdm apt-get install xfwm apt-get install wicd #...

I think all they need to do to avoid this misunderstanding is change the "OK" label to "Next". I'll try to send a bug report to the Xfce developers.

Re: Cannot Edit Keyboard Shortcuts in Xfce

You need to put in the command first, then press ok, and only then press your key combination. It's so simple that people just miss it. I had the same problem a couple of years ago, when I switched from Gnome to Xfce. Someone in the Ubuntu forums was kind enough to explain it to me, and I could not ...

Re: Linux mint 8 wont recognize blank cd

revdjenk reasoning sounds right. I'd also want to add that I had problems with both brasero and xfburn on linux mint 8 and 9. xfburn crashed and brasero error when I tried to compile a audio CD. I decided to try gnome baker, and it works very well. This is probably not related to the problem describ...

Re: [xfce howto] Add network smb support to xfce

It seems to me that for a one time install with no updates, a better choice would be direct download and install of the .deb package.
