Re: New to Mint - having sound problems

List the programs you have under sound and video.
You should see pulse audio device chooser and Gnome alsa mixer.
Have a look and if not > go get them in the software manager., make sure your device is selected and set the volume controls.

Guys like Clem, Pinguy, Ultimadude,Shuttlworth and crew, etc. Pre tweak for lazy/busy people. ...

There's nothing wrong with the "Mint enhanced" other than the fact the toolbar to allow you to select video, news etc is non existent. That was quite stupid. IMNotSHO

Re: How many times did you break your first linux install?

I broke Storm a few times.Broke Progeny once.Ian got me straight. Debian used to be difficult but I loaded every package I could find. My bad. Many, many, others I had to ditch because they were pure, unadulterated, garbage to begin with. Until the recent Mints and Vectors about the only ones...

Why not just format / to 6 or 8 gigs , then a separate /home for the home folder ?
If you trash the OS just reinstall it in /

Re: Mint ranking on Distrowatch

Let's get something straight here. Without the Debian project there would not be a Ubuntu, Puppy, Knoppix, Ultimate, Mint or Pinguy or any of the other cross dressed versions we all love. We are Debian users. Nada mas. All the others are from guys who know how to tweak something that already existed...
