Re: Installation has broken my computer

Unless we know more about your system, there's not much we can suggest, other than point you in possible directions.

System specifications, how you attempted to install Mint, partition information, etc. are all things we'd need to know to narrow down your issue and provide a solution.

It would be nice if there was an option to install 4.5 Beta 2 on Mint.
There is nothing preventing you from installing the source. Just because it's not in a repository doesn't mean it can't be installed.

Re: Mint application/package update policy?

Why is ensuring the latest release of something so critical? If it works, and there's no security issues with the current application, there should be absolutely no need to upgrade to the latest version of something just because it's "newer".

Re: Clearwire USB?

Clear does not provide a USB modem that will work under Linux. Clear is supposedly in the process of getting Linux drivers created for their USB modems, but to date, it hasn't come to fruition yet. From what I've been able to dig up, there's one Intel chipset that's compatible with WiMax and I don't...

Re: Installation has broken my computer

Most likely the OP has something on the system that's writing to the MBR. The thread I referenced narrows the culprits down and also provides a fix.

Re: Installation has broken my computer

Not much information to go on here, however, it sounds similar to this issue: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1343851

You should find the solution in that thread.

Re: Do NOT ever edit grub.cfg

Meh.. Sometimes it's easier to just make a quick change to grub.cfg and be done with it. Especially if additional boot commands need to be passed at the time of booting. As long as you remember to make the changes if you update anything, it's no big thing.

This would most likely be more suited for the Wine forums. I did find this:

Most likely, you aren't going to like how things appear or run.

Re: GAG boot manager and Mint 9

Seems to me this is an issue with GAG, rather than Mint. I just took a look at the Sourceforge page, and the documentation for the program is nonexistent, which I find disturbing. It doesn't state whether it's compatible with Grub2 or not, which I suspect may be the issue.

Re: When does a machine become "self aware"

When will the "Internet" become self-aware? As a living entity . . . (a living, learning, thinking being). Communication is much too slow (and variable in speed) for the Internet to efficiently process information on a massively parallel scale in real time. You have distributed computing ...

What port does the stream come in on? Comcast has been known to use packet shaping on ports other than 80.

The US is supposed to have a democracy.. by the people, for the people and all that jazz. I'm not even American.. and I know that. What the US has NOW though is all messed up.. you can't take away a man's gun due to the constitution.. but heaven forbid you try to introduce socialized health care. A...

Maybe the cloud will take a major chunk out of them. Those that say cloud computing will eventually become the norm never worked on mainframes during the bad ol' days with dumb terminals. That's all cloud computing is. And what do you do when you can't connect to the cloud? THIS is why PCs became s...

When does a machine become "self aware"

In another thread, Fedora Refugee lamented the fact he would most likely not be around when machines become massively parallel to the point to where Artificial Intelligence really takes off. In order for artificial intelligence to really have an impact, there will need to be some great strides made ...
