Re: Which Desktop Version Do You Prefer? Vote Here

I usually tend to gravitate towards KDE, however, I have been known to use XFCE, IceWM and Enlightenment as well. To me, Gnome just doesn't have the final "polish" that other managers have going for them.

Re: Why don't other distros make their installation simple?

Bad analogy.

While you may not need to know how the combustion engine works, you still need to know the basics. Where does the key go, how do you put fuel in it, how do you check the oil, where's the spare tire, etc.

Re: Why don't other distros make their installation simple?

I have found that the ease of installation is going to depend a LOT on the individual sitting in front of the keyboard. We have an entire generation of users who think FTP is some type of florist, directories are something you look a phone number up in, and partitions are those things that separate ...

Re: Merging XP and Mint from sep drives onto 1 - How?

Why try to combine everything on one drive? You have what I would consider the perfect setup at this point. Toss both drives into the PC and use the first hard drive for WIndows and the second for Linux.

Re: Newbie dual-boot hell

I dual boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint 8, with Grub in the MBR of my hard drive, and have had no problems booting into either OS. I don't see how Windows 7 is "picky" about the contents of your MBR in any way, other than the fact that doing a re-install of any version of Windows will kill G...

Re: Mint KDE - not many posts

Have never really played with a "Gnomish" distro. My experience tends to run XFCE or KDE with some IceWM and Enlightenment thrown in. I downloaded Mint (Main) on Friday and it didn't take me long to decide that I didn't like Gnome very much. Soooooooooooooooooooo, in the process of downloa...

Re: Newbie dual-boot hell

So Grub2 needs its own dedicated partition?? In your example in that guide, which sda has the master boot record? This all looks extremely complicated and drawn-out for someone like me. I have to follow a 5-step guide where one of the steps is to go and follow a 6-step guide?? Are you sure there's ...

Well done!

I've been a long time Linux user (usually Slackware or a derivative of Slackware) and I decided to try Mint 8 (Main). All I can say is bloody well done! Normally it's a bit of a hassle to get a distro to fire up properly as I have to hand massage the start up due to the USB drive. Not so with Mint. ...
