Re: Oh dear, not again!

Once more Mint has failed to supply a working 'streaming webcam' interface. All Mints later than 5 Elyssa have failed in this respect. Such a pity no one cares. If you want to know what I'm talking about go to http://www.blueservo.com , which is the Texas Sheriff's Border Watch site. Register with ...

Re: ugrading antivirus engine

There are directions on their website on how to obtain and install the latest versions.

Which reminds me.. I need to check the server and double check what I have installed there. Should probably upgrade it as well. :)

Re: So is it really helpful to have a separate data partitio

What the Mint devs should do is delete the configuration files in /home when a user updates but does not redo their /home directory. Other distro's do this and it works very well.

Re: Firestarter - curious entries found

These are programs on your system, calling out? If so, you have issues far greater than these two programs. Most likely, you've been rooted. And if this is indeed the case, the 3 R's (reformat, repartition, reinstall) are the only trusted and true method of removing the root kit in my book.

A request for the Admin

One of the infuriating quirks about phpBB 3 is its inability to parse a link into a new tab. Would you please consider implementing this modification to the templates so that behavior is restored? Much appreciated. :)

No, there is a lot of food for thought here. I wish I had your skill. I am a talented enough user but I am no geek. I can create a binary from source but I do not even have the skills (or time) to be a package maintainer. Whatever you do with it, have fun! Creating packages really isn't that diffic...

Why should people help you when you refuse to provide the information that's requested of you? Google is your friend. Use it and stop cluttering up the forums with useless requests for help.

Re: Why piracy isnt theft

Want to see how the criminals hurt everyone else? Take a look at the recent issues folks have been having trying to seed Mint via BitTorrent. Because the thieves have been so prolific, torrent sites are closing down rather than attempting to prevent theft from occurring. This is hurting the legitima...

Re: Partition Tables Broken

The partition table isn't messed up, it's showing exactly what you've done. By removing the partition that WIndows resided on, you essentially deleted Windows, and now you have a chunk of your drive that's available to be formatted into something else and used either by Linux or Windows. At this poi...

Re: Where is the deleted items' folder?

So I made 2 more attempts: theo@TJTLap3 / $ /lost+found ls-a bash: /lost+found: is a directory theo@TJTLap3 / $ sudo /lost+found ls -a sudo: /lost+found: command not found By typing sudo /lost+found, you are essentially stating that /lost+found is a command that is found in root. However, I don't k...

Re: eSATA drive is read only under linux mint 8

Ewwwww. Formating in FAT32 wastes a TON of space. In other words, when you save a 2K file to the drive, it will take up 32K of space. Not to mention there's a hard file size limit of 4GB. I'd be actively searching for a better multimedia device.

Re: Using installed Mint on different hardware

Depends on how it was all set up initially. There could be a few minor hiccups, but as long as you aren't using a customized xorg.conf, I don't see many show stopping issues. Possibly some minor stuff with fstab and networking, but that's easily worked.

Question.. Why on earth did you format a 2 TB drive as fat32? Talk about massive amounts of wasted space!

Re: Would Microsoft fail if they eliminated piracy? “network

The premise has a seriously fatal flaw in that it assumes that half the users in the rest of the world are using an illegal copy of Windows. Considering the update tool checks to ensure it's a valid copy before updating, I don't see that many "outdated and insecure" copies being used.
