Re: Mint 17.1 and Chromium Problems

waldo, Did you try reinstalling Chrome? I'm using 17.1 with Chrome Version 39.0.2171.95 (64-bit) and the mouse wheel scrolling works for me. I didn't mention earlier but my mouse cursor theme would not work in Chrome it would change to the default cursor in Chrome but I fixed that. Hopefully some o...

Re: Mint 17.1 and Chromium Problems

I'm posting in this thread because my problem fits the category, and may be related. I have an ASUS laptop, new enough it came with Windows 8. I have it dual booting with Linux Mint, which I use most of the time. Mint 17 was the first Linux distro I installed on this machine. Everything worked perfe...

Re: Google Earth pixelated

Ditto richyrich's suggestion. By way of explanation, Nvidia builds a proprietary Linux driver for their video systems. Linux distributions cannot include them (copyright), so the user friendly distros include a way for you to install them directly from the Nvidia site. This usually fixes the problem...

WICKED GOOD HELP !! (I see you're from Maine!)

It worked. Thanks. I did have to do the last step. There was a similar error message after the first part.

Re: Amazing value tablet or too good to be true?

These tablets do not make a good replacement for an eReader. Even the beautiful Kindle Fire is not a good replacement for the standard monochrome Kindles. We have both Kindles in our family, and reading a book is much more eye strain on the backlit color version. If you are just reading short docume...

Re: If this is what Mint 13 looks like...

As i was pointing out to waldo...it's only in Alpha at this point and Mint 13 won't be out until May... I do realize Cinnamon is alpha, but I was not particularly upset with Cinnamon. It was Gnome 3 that is not letting me set up my stuff in a multitasking busy desktop workplace. Furthermore, Gnome ...

Re: If this is what Mint 13 looks like...

Cinnamon really does look nice, but for me it turned out to be lipstick on a pig (that pig being Gnome 3). After many crashes and lockups, I decided that I needed to get back to work, dug up my trusty Mint 11 disk, and erased Mint 12. After downloading 256 updated files, and setting the repositories...

Re: Mint 12- Not everyone's cup of tea?

I love using Linux and Mint is really nice. I thought I was the only "over 60" crazy enough to fiddle with Linux so I am very happy to learn that there are others like me. Perhaps we should start the 60+ Linux club. Grüße, mein guter Mann! Sie sind bloß ein Kind! Ich bin 72 Jahre alt, und mit...

Re: Pear OS Ubuntu variant

I've played with Pear OS 3.0 for a bit now, and it has some promise. However, it seems to be more like a late alpha or early beta release. It needs some work. There are many little problems. (Of course some of these may be related to the Gnome 3 underpinnings - reminds me of Mint 12 :) .) The develo...

Pear OS Ubuntu variant

Today's DistroWatch update announced the availability of Pear OS 3.0. Has anybody heard of this one before? It appears to be a project done by one or two French guys. They are obviously playing cute with the Apple name and logo. The screen shots look quite nice. I'm downloading it right now. http://...

Re: Ubuntu 11.10 released

I've been using it all afternoon on my old 2005 HP laptop. It installed flawlessly, and no problems since. There's a nice user friendly update to the Ubuntu installer. The partition screen informed me that my computer "contained Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.10", and gave me four "radio button" options: ...

Re: I don't want to live in a world without Microsoft

I think there is some merrit to wanting to keep Microsoft in the market to drive it's competitors. I'm sure Microsoft is competing really hard to try and maintain it's stance against the free linux alternative. You need to really be ultra competitve to expect a premium price for what linux can deli...
