Re: Updated the kernel, getting error

1. to take a kernel which is fully supported, which means one from the repository. mhm other ideas could be: 2. using google to get the autoconf.h (in SuSE you also can find it in the boot partition/file, but i wont find it in my LM 8 KDE, but it could be somewhere else) 3. if there is a file named ...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

Ok had some time to try openSUSE 11.3 gnome. Not too bad. Runs very well actually. Well here is a screenshot or 2 of what I did with it, well at least with the theme, the default theme was just ugly. :) http://lh5.ggpht.com/_eaG_2_ZTOwA/TEOmqKYJ6JI/AAAAAAAADhs/HytxcRIy9ZQ/s1024/Screenshot-1.png htt...

Re: Updated the kernel, getting error

at first try to stop your actual drivers in /etc/init.d/<your driver>, than manually remove them via apt (it should work even if you just compiled there you're own) and remove the file, where they are installed, after this try again. If it still won't work, look if your version is realy supported or...

Re: Linux Mint 9 KDE RC released!

I'll be sticking with Gnome thanks. I've looked into the whole almost religious debate over KDE versus Gnome and it seems Gnome is ahead in numbers of people using it and in my opinion its usability and stability. One thing that has always puzzled me is they say that KDE is more like Windows and Gn...

Re: Linux mint 9 Isadora on notebook argument error

at first... if you keep pushing F12 (or F10?) in the BIOS-Bootmenu you should be able to get to the Boot-device selection, if your CD-reader isn't listed it's may incompaible for this job. Also it could be, that if you're using an external CD-reader, it's listed as Harddrive (stupid but possible), l...

Re: windows 7 set as default os. no grub2 menu

I ain't know, if this realy fits your problem, but it should help: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=9922 (as I understand your boot menu doesnt appear and so Win 7 is autobooting?), if this is so, there links how to integrate Linux in the Win 7 bootmenu. hope this was kinda helpf...

Re: no sound with firefox, but sound with applications

mhm the 2 easiest methods (i know): 1. start the packetmanager and select something like "flash" or "flashplayer" (isn't it native installed on LM?) if it's always "selected" try the mint update-function. If it even don't work, go to the terminal and type "apt-get ...

Re: KDE, XFCE vs others

Ok, so I take it as: detection, installation and configuration of hardware, software etc will be same - its only the look and feel that changes (like changing theme). some of the software changes too(especially between KDE and GNOME), but such things, like installing Hardware, mounting it and so sh...

Re: where and how do i place code and scripts??

mostly the scripts postet here are for special issues, so the people also say, where they have to come to.
If you want a script running @ every boot (for example for mounting special WLAN-Sticks) you should place it in /etc/init.d and add it to the programms runned @ startup.

Re: Isadora KDE Development Progress Report

I have found that Kcrundtu doesn't see more than 3ish GB of RAM in the 32-Bit version, is this the case with KMint? If so I think that is quite a reason, most people I know have 4GB of RAM these days at least. You need a PAE capable machine and a PAE enabled kernel on 32bit. Even with PAE you can o...
