Re: TrueCrypt blocking notification popups

I don't think it's a TrueCrypt problem. I have a similar issue. My notifications seem to be blocked while I am connected to my external 1TB trive. When I unmount the external drive, all of the notifications that would have appeared suddenly appear, one after another. (Cinnamon 1.4.0)

Re: Skype Screen Sharing

OK I tried it in "Mate" and in "Gnome Classic". Screen sharing full screen works. The mouse cursor shows up as a black square, but at least you can see the full screen. I think either represents a work-around until the issues with Gnome Shell are fixed. The only issue I see with this work-around is ...

Re: Skype Screen Sharing

Tried screen sharing on Skype for the first time today on Mint 12. Ouch! I see the same issue as reported at the top of the thread. My screen doesn't appear grey, but shows the background color I have selected in Desktop Background. (Blue) I am about to try Mate to see if it works there. I'll report...

Re: Installing linux mint on hp pavilion laptop with win7

I know that this is an old thread, but many of these threads get searched for answers well after the technology changes. As a result, I thought I'd post an updated script for toggling the trackpad/touchpad. With Gnome 3 (and Mint 12) this line no longer works: gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/periph...

Re: Mint 12 Changing Printer Driver

This isn't a mint problem, but a gnome 3 problem. I'm hoping some of the versatility comes back in time. Seems lots of configuration tools are missing. Frankly, I've been so spoiled with the KDE and Gnome configuration utilities that I forgot all about CUPS, the technology behind the printing in Li...

Re: Mint 12 Changing Printer Driver

I have the same question. I just installed Mint 12 Lisa and love it. I have a Samsung color laser printer that doesn't work well with the "recommended" driver, but an alternate that is available by default works perfectly. I'd like to be able to change this. In addition, the default color mode is "M...

From the URL in the error message, it looks like it is pointing at a file that is on the author's hard drive! Does the link work in another PDF viewer?

Also, a listener sent this link that might be helpful to you: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBook

(I know it's an Ubuntu forum, but things that work for Ubuntu often apply directly to Mint without modification.)

My friend Knightwise has done this with Ubuntu. I think he called the application he used "Refit".

Re: LMDE: A Great Disappointment <Decision Time>

Being on the "bleeding edge" with a rolling release has its disadvantages. Because you get all the latest updates, sometimes things break. I agree that unless you are either a more advanced user, or just want to have the opportunity to learn by fixing the issues (opportunities?) that a rolling relea...

Re: Synergy 1.42... Mint to Mint Problems

Had to install the same package in Linux Mint 11 Katya, couldn't get it to start up with it's start with gui option it would just through an error about no dock, so created a bash script to delay start up slightly, added it to the start up programs list and worked like a charm. On a related note....does your touchpad go crazy everytime you have more than one finger on it at a time? if anything brushes an area of the touchpad while I'm using it, it goes spastic for lack of a better way to describe it....and I haven't found a way around it. I copied a shell script from some...

Re: Touchpad Tap and Login Screen Issue

I just switched to Mint LMDE 64 after several years of using Ubuntu. I am seeing these two issues as well. I thought it was a driver issue with the Synaptics trackpad on my HP dm4 laptop. Now I know I'm not alone. In addition, right-click doesn't work. I tried several trackpad utilities with no luck...

Re: Computer Sound Jack Inoperative in Linux

Have you tried the sound settings?
  • Right-click the speaker icon in the panel
Select "Sound Preferences" from the list
    Choose the "Output" tab
Make sure that you have selected the speaker jack as the output and make sure it isn't muted.

Re: Clone HD to smaller SSD for Linux

Nice overview Daikini. An alternative would be to use something like CloneZilla Live. You will need an extra external drive for this, but it eliminates the need to resize partitions. CloneZilla makes a compressed backup of your larger drive onto the external drive. If you "restore" the backup to the...

Re: Synergy 1.42... Mint to Mint Problems

I found that I also needed to install the package libqt4-network from the default repositories on Linux Mint 10 Debian Edition. Once I did that, it worked fine.
