Re: Installing on old Dell laptop

Hello, Yes, this laptop does meet minimum requirements. I've upgraded it to 2GB RAM and it has more than enough diskspace. Regarding installer, the error happens on the screen which comes after I select "install Mint alongside" another operating system. I don't have enough time to read the next scre...

Installing on old Dell laptop

Hi everyone, I was trying to install Katya on my old 2006 Dell Celeron laptop couple of times now but every time I reach a point where I am asked to drag disk folder for installation, the screen immediately becomes garbled and distorted and it is impossible to recognize anything on the screen anymor...

skype microphone question [Solved]

Hi everyone, I've got a Katya edition and was trying to communicate with a friend using Skype, I heard her fine but she couldn't hear me. I have this USB camera with a built-in microphone. I inserted this unit into USB port. Does anybody know if there are specific adjustments that need to be made fo...

Re: ! Kernel 3 cautions

Is it final, or still rc- X ? The one I picked was linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae from ftp.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free repository Are you using the proprietary nvidia drivers? There has been a discussion in the last 2 or so pages in the breakages thread about issues with the nvidi...

! Kernel 3 cautions

Hi everyone, A small word of caution about Kernel 3 which is available in Debian's repository. I had LMDE break 3 times after I installed Kernel 3 and ran 'upgrade' and 'dist-upgrade' commands afterwards. The problem was that upon restart the system didn't go to the login screen but just hanged inde...

Re: ugly dialogs in gnome 2

Not sure if it's gcolor2 because it's just a color choosing tool but I ran the upgrade, then dist-upgrade and now the dialogs are consistent with the rest of the theme.

ugly dialogs in gnome 2 [Solved]

Hi everyone, I've got this problem I've been trying to solve on my own but can't find a way. Right now I'm using Mint-X theme in Gnome 2. In fact, I tried various other themes like Shiki-Wise and the problem is that some system dialog and menu boxes are not changing according to current theme but al...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Hi all, Thought I'd throw in this article regarding Gnome 3 I found on OSNews which I think might be relevant to the topic at hand: http://www.osnews.com/story/25022/Linus_Torvalds_Not_a_Fan_of_Gnome_3 ... thoughts? In my Gnome 3 version I had a right-click mouse button disabled. Is that a normal fe...

Re: weather applet in GNOME 3? [SOLVED]

Hi, Don't worry, I've got my weather applet, in gnome 2 :) Had to re-install LMDE all over because there were issues compiling gnome 3 from source. Oh well, gnome 2 works great too, in conjunction with kernel 3 it runs just as fast as gnome 3 and with fewer bugs  Thank you for looking into this...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Thank you secipolla. Just a quick note that it's probably not worth it trying to install gnome 3 from source because there are a lot of dependencies which are not listed in gnome's ftp source site but are required for compilation. So it's very time consuming chasing after dependencies. Also, after I...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Hi all, I skimmed through this thread but can't find attempts building gnome3 from source. Has anybody tried to build gnome3 from source at: http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/core/3.1/3.1.3/sources/ I was successful at compiling 'gnome-desktop-3.1.3' component but when trying to compile 'gtk+-3.1.8' on...

Re: weather applet in GNOME 3?

Hi, I've got gnome-shell but it seems incomplete or something like that. I've compiled 'gnome-shell-extensions-3.0.2' and installed 'gnome-common' but there doesn't seem to be any additional features in gnome3 after I applied these operations. I also tried to directly compile gnome weather extension...

weather applet in GNOME 3? [Solved]

Hi everyone, I've got a kernel 3 here with Gnome 3 running which I installed from Debian's experimental repository. My question is: does anybody know how I can activate the weather applet in Gnome 3 panel? The right-click feature which usually allows you to add an applet in previous Gnome versions i...

Re: Linux kernel 3.0.0, anyone?

Hi everyone, I'm not trying to hijack this thread but have a question on the topic. I'm currently downloading kernel 3.0 and I selected 'linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae-dbg' together with other related packages. Question - is 'linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae-dbg' a must have? It says it's a debugging packag...

Re: update problems

Hi, Thank you for the message. Yes, I had to re-install LMDE over but it's ok because I distribute important files over other partitions so no big damage was done. I think I just got too complacent having everything work in LMDE so I took for granted that update process and didn't execute commands y...

Re: update problems

Well ... for one, apt-install update is the wrong command. Yuikes! That's pretty serious  I tried all the commands in both replies but none of them seem to work :( When I run sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade I get a long list of "Failed to fetch" statements. I just picked o...

Re: update problems

bump.

I still haven't found a solution to the aforementioned problem - can't use LMDE as it won't show login screen. Using openSUSE as a fallback until problem is fixed.
