OK, I found videolan player and it looks great but did you find one that would download/install directly into Mint? Where?

Re: Adaptive Multirate decoder

Man, you lost me with that post. If its Plug and Play or close to it, I can handle it. But Linux is new to me. I have 40 years of programming experience and computer design, but NEVER in linux.

BTW, I love your avitar. I am a cat person.

Is there an AMR decoder anywhere that works with Mint 8? I have audio recordings from my Droid X that I would like to play from the computer and cannot find the software.

Re: BlueTooth dongle

This worked perfectly. For someone that is "nowhere near a bluetooth whiz", you gave an amazingly exact procedure to solve the problem. Most of the time people leave out steps, or fail to explain steps and the procedure is worthless to the user because he/she cant get beyond the break in t...

BlueTooth dongle

I am having a problem that may not be solvable. But on the off chance that there is a solution I will ask. I have a Jensen Bluetooth Dongle connected to a USB port on the computer. I can get the music from lastFM to input to the dongle and transmit to the stereo fine. Also I can get it to play over ...

Re: burning an iso file to cd

Well, it wasnt quite what I needed, but I give up. I got a message "cannot add duplicate torrent" BUT a file search does not show a copy of <livesandroidv0.2.iso> anywhere on the file system. It isnt worth the time I am putting into it.

Re: burning an iso file to cd

I am running Mint 8 on an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 5600+ 2.91 ghz. I have a file that I downloaded. It was supposed to be an ISO file that I could burn to CD. But the file is named <Liveandroidv.2.iso [mininoval].torrent> so when I try to burn it the message is that this is NOT an ISO file. Where ...

Re: Chrome is better than Firefox???

I would use Chrome IF i could figure out how to have it do bookmarks and how to have it come up with the same tabs open I had when I shut down last. Firefox does that so effortlessly that I have come top rely on it. Thats my only complaint with chrome

Well, I removed it from my system and am back to Firefox. I find the bookmarks and tabs to be clumsy and unusable.

Re: Correcting the Boot Menu

Holy Key Rap. That is genius. The video is very dificult to follow because of all the exteraneous crap in it. But, the crux of the information is as follows: First open the Terminal then enter these commands in sequence as shown: 1) Type sudo chmod +w /boot/grub/grub.cfg 2) enter your password when ...

Chrome is better than Firefox???

I just downloaded Chrome because somewhere I read that I would love it. I dont. So why is it prefered when I cannot bookmark a set of tabs to be rebooted in the future. Every time it comes up its always with one tab. In fact I see NO bookmark capability at all.

Re: Install of Helena with two drives

Great. I was using old technology. Thanks for the referral to Grub2. That solved MOST of my problems. Now I only have to figure out how to get the 1TB drive to be the default boot. But I think Grub2 will lead me there.
