Re: Installing software

I have no idea where I was when I tried to install it. It was one of the tabs that appears across the top when you first install Mint 8. Browsing through it I came to a place where it said I could download Chrome and an "install" button which I dutifully pressed. BUT...going to Google Chrome worked ...

Installing software

When I try to install Chromium I get the following error message, but no suggestions on how to resolve it. "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (apt) isn't associated with any program." Also I noticed that it is for Isadora and I am running Helena. Is that a problem??

Re: Install of Helena with two drives

I have it working after a fashion, but if I could find menu.lst I think I could fix the need for the second drive that I dont need. But I have searched both drives and cannot find it. I expected to find it at root/grub/menu.lst but its not there. Does Mint use some other file for that function?

Re: Correcting the Boot Menu

Ok, now I have tried both methods as proposed by AgingTechnogeek and both seem to work in the inplementation but in the end, the menu remains un changed. With method #1 runing [sudo update-grub /boot/grub/grub.cfg] does not change the location of the highlight on the menu. it is still on the first l...

LOST IN FILE EXTENSIONS

What is an .eml file and can it be read by Linux? With what program and how do I set Linux to default to that program when a file with that extension is selected to run? Where are the default extension programs set. I went to preferences and then to default applications, but saw nothing there about ...

Re: Correcting the Boot Menu

In the title of the file it states that if the file is changed then I have to "run update-grub" But I dont know how to do that since it apparently does NOT run in the terminal. At least nothing happens when I enter that phrase and hit cr. Well, almost nothing. I discovered that by closing the termin...

Correcting the Boot Menu

I am running Mint 8 (Helena) on a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop in dual boot with Win 7. The boot menu lists Mint as the first selection and Win 7 as the last selection. I would like to change the sequence of the boot menu so that Win 7 is the first line. My wife uses this computer most of the time and if...

Re: Fuzzy screen

That was partially the solution. I was able to mess around with all the settings there to improve things. BUT...what really worked was that I found out how to change the font size on Gmail. Something that has always alluded me. I usually had to reduce the resolution in order to get the Gmail font to...

Fuzzy screen

I did a search on this subject and found no solutions. :( I am using LinuxMint 8 on a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. Just installed it about 30 minutes ago. Fumbled my way into the internet connection. The screen is fuzzy so I thought maybe the refresh needed to be changed, but its fixed at 60 hz. Making ...
