Re: School Advertising/Macedonia to supply schools with GNU

Well, at least I think this is a positive example: "The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia will deploy 180.000 computer workstations to all schools, running the GNU/Linux distribution Ubuntu and virtual desktop technology by NComputing. http://www.osor.eu/news/macedonia-to-supply-all-school-with-...

Re: Would Linux be more popular with LESS choice?

True,as many of you did mention maybe "average Joe" computer user couldǹt care less about which OS he is using-he just wants to push the button and be able to write a letter, a mail, surf in the net etc. I wouldn't say that those users would really considering Linux distros even if those would be mo...

Re: Why did you switch to linux mint?

Addon: it is just reliable and superb!
Just today while writing a long e-mail with Firefox on Mint a short power cutoff happened, usually (on Win even with Firefox) the data would have been lost, I was delighted and surprised to find out all everything was saved after restart!

more games..

As I do enjoy games I would just suggest to have some more games installed together with the newer versions of Mint. Furthermore, I would suggest to have the most recent version of wine as well as "Play on Linux" preinstalled.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions, I think using PDF before handing in the final version to a MS OS will be the best option!

Open Office- texts change format

Hi all, just a rather noob question regarding Open Office. I prefer using Open Office while writing papers, my thesis etc. As universities mostly use MS Word, some texts I save as doc. or docx. show slightly different settings when opened under MS Office. This is especially the case with footnotes. ...

Re: Why do YOU think Ubuntu 10.04 sucks?

I don t think Ubuntu sucks, quite contrary, the developers just did great with version 10.04. I did have some problems with the software-managing in 9.04, all gone. I do prefer Mint (I know, an Ubuntu derivate) as I just like the nice graphics, the overall design and the easy managing of packages- a...

Another reason for me to switch to Mint is the simple fact that problems I had faced with my laptop`s wireless internet connection with Windows (but also Kubuntu) are simply non-existent anymore! It just works!!!

stamp collecting and IT- North Korea stamp and vintage PC

Even given the fact that this stamp (actually stamp collectors call that format souvenir sheet, our stamp is in the left corner) featuring North Korean leader Kim Jong Il and a computer was issued back in 2002, the depicted computer seems pretty vintage! Nevertheless I have read that North Korea dev...
