Re: suspend/wake on AMD C-50 with fglrx: nearly functional?

I tried the same trick on Xubuntu 12.04. This restores the backlight but all I get is a blinking cursor (or vertical lines with flashing red blocks). As I said, with LMDE-xfce, I can successfully suspend+wake this laptop (manually). I did't try with Mint 13 but have no hope since it's based on 12.04...

[SOLVED] suspend/wake on AMD C-50 with fglrx

Suspend/wake on this laptop (acer ao722) with fglrx is functional on Mint10. On any distribution with a more recent kernel (actually LMDE 201204-xfce), I get a black screen on resume (with catalyst driver). This is a known problem with AMD C-50 CPU (and similar). However, I can resume the laptop if ...

Re: mint10 after april 2012?

As I see, repos #1, 5 and 6 ((see my previous post) don't expire so quickly so we can imagine they will run a year from now for maverick. So, one will have to edit his sources.list like I suggested in my previous post for repos #2,3,4. In this way, upgrades (up to expired date) and new software inst...

Re: mint10 after april 2012?

So the problem is the access to the repos X weeks/months from now. Basically 6 repos are needed: 1) deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ julia main upstream import 2) deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick main restricted universe multiverse 3) deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-up...

Re: mint10 after april 2012?

I understand that Mint can't easily extend the official support for Mint 10 and that efforts must go on Mint 13. Maybe I asked too much. However, the ISOs could be available for other people for which this version is better (it's not for me, I will have the ISOs here). And the repositories could be ...

[SOLVED] mint10 after april 2012?

Hello, Mint 10 will expire soon and I think it's bad. May I suggest this: let it available for downloads (all desktops if possible, gnome 32 at minimum) and support it as least until the next LTS is well implemented. From my point of view, Mint 10 is still the best version (fully functional gnome 2 ...

[Solved] how to return to flash 10.2.152?

I'm now on flash 10.3 and I would like to return to 10.2.152. I cannot force the version in Synaptic because 10.2.152 is not available anymore. I don't talk about the d162 version that was installed by default. I removed this quickly since 10.2.152 supported vdpau on my nvidia card. What can I do to...

Re: 64-bit kernel freezes on Mint10 and LMDE

I have done many tests on Mint10 and some tests on Fedora 14. For Mint10 -64bit, any kernel tested from 2.6.35.5 (mainline) reproduces the problem. In this kernel, there is a change for radeon rv730 so I think it is related. Kernels before that are not an option since kms is broken for my graphic ca...

Re: 64-bit kernel freezes on Mint10 and LMDE

I tried LMDE-32 (the latest release) on my AMD64 system and I have the same behavior (freezes). Just to prove that I'm not hallucinating, I can use this liveCD on my old thinkpad with success. Also, I didn't have this problem with the first LMDE release, even after the activation of DRI. So somethin...

Re: 64-bit kernel freezes on Mint10 and LMDE

bobcollard: did you have the problem with LMDE stock kernel? My problem with LMDE is that the system will quickly freeze before I can complete the kernel update you propose. Maybe I will have to wait until the next liveCD release. This is the reason why I'm searching the good kernel for mint10.

Re: 64-bit kernel freezes on Mint10 and LMDE

For Mint10, I checked in /etc/hdparm.conf and the line for spindown_time is commented so I suppose that it never spins down. I didn't check with LMDE. And the freezes happens shortly after the login (sometimes during the login), well before any power management activity.

64-bit kernel freezes on Mint10 and LMDE

LMDE-64 freezes randomly on my system. It may happen at the login screen, or some minutes after the login in nautilus or any application. The freeze needs a hardware reset, even the ALT+SysRq keys do nothing. This make the distribution unusable for me. I think it is related to the particular kernel ...

Re: network manager notification not readable

A solution (for me at least) has been post here: viewtopic.php?f=110&p=279823.

Basically, a simple line added in xorg.conf (in Section "Screen") do the magic (after X restart):
Option "RenderAccel" "off"

Re: Broken Notifications

I confirm that with this line in the "Screen" Section of my xorg.conf, the bug disappear (system monitor, notifications, ...): Option "RenderAccel" "off" Good! I think I found the solution: http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Grafikkarten/ATI/radeon under "Grafikfehler mit alten ATI karten". (im sorry, it's ...

Re: 1ST IMPRESSIONS - MINT 9 ON IBM THINKPAD T30

Hum... not so nice here on a T40 (mobility radeon 7500). I had to use the nomodeset kernel flag, otherwise the performance was horrible. With the flag, it is true that almost everything works well but only in 32 bits colordepth. With mint 8 xcfe I was able to get better performance in 16 bits (with ...

laptop brightness with disabled kms and 16 bits color

I installed Mint 9 on Thinkpad T40 (mobilty radeon 7500). I disabled kms with the nomodeset flag (otherwise the graphic performance was unacceptable). Everything is good in 32 bits colordepth (the default). However I prefer to force the 16 bits colordepth (far better performance for this laptop). I ...

Re: Broken Notifications

Same broken notifications problem here on a fresh Helena XFCE install. However, if I activate compiz, the notifications are ok. I'm not sure it's a good idea to run Compiz of this old laptop, so I'm interested by a fix.
