Boot using liveCD or USB and check the hard drive using GParted or command line. Via command line it goes like this:
sudo blkid # tells the media (partitions, etc)
sudo fsck /dev/sdxy # where x=hard drive and y=partition

You can use more options also (sudo fsck -fyc /dev/sdxy).

Curious what the end purpose of that step is?
The desktop will look as on the first boot.

Probably you could reset all the settings?

1. Make a folder for hidden files mkdir hidden
2. Move all hidden files to hidden folder mv ~/.* hidden
3. Logout
4. Login

hi lamprecht, note that it's best to install Windows on the first partition sda1, by default the Windows bootloader assumes it'll find Windows there. That is not necessary. Windows needs one primary partition, which can be sda1, sda2, sda3 or sda4 for example, which can be on the end of disk also. ...
