Install Legacy grub and add XP to the /boot/grub/menu.lst manually. Remember answer yes (y) when asking menu.lst and remember install grub to MBR.

An example Windows on hard drive 0 (sda) and partition 1
title Windows XP
root (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
boot

UPDATE - when i run the dvd i press "enter" before the auto boot and run it in compatability mode which then works and installs it but then when i restart it, it doesnt work.... just colour/white lines appear thats it someone has mentioned it possible being a video driver issue, anyone confirm/agre...

You need to remove Apache completely before an re-installation.

You can install Photorec using commands su urpmi photorec When running Photorec, select whole disk without partitions and you need some place to save recovered files (an external hard drive?).
