Re: Installing Broadcom Driver

Great news! Some wireless cards work with Linux out of the box, others (like Broadcom based ones) require installing drivers. I think other distros might even come with the Broadcom drivers. If you're moving out where there is no wired connection then I recommend that at that time you get a wireless...

Re: Installing Broadcom Driver

Did you use a version of Mint 10 to create the flash drive? When I Googled the error I saw something about it being caused by an error in the version of one of the non-Mint components in Mint. I usually use Mint 9 Xfce and have not had trouble making live flash drives. If you've got time and another...

Re: Installing Broadcom Driver

I'm not sure sly, that hasn't happened to me. I googled the error message and found this suggestion: Hit "tab" at the "boot" prompt you should see those options for booting live xforcevesa install textonly debug memtest So type "live" and you will boot normally. Give it a try and let us know what ha...

Re: Installing Broadcom Driver

I have found that when I install my wireless driver all I need to do is right click on the network icon in the notification area, disable networking, and then enable networking to get the wireless to start. Can your laptop boot from a USB thumb drive? A better way to do what you want is to create a ...

Re: Linux Mint Xfce RC (201104) released!

I too am staying with Mint 9 Xfce. Although Mint Xfce Debian RC worked a lot better on my machine than when I tried the original Mint LMDE, I'm not about to put in the effort getting Xfce Debian working (no wireless for one) when I have an LTS version working like a dream. A system that works and do...

mikhou, check out the following from the release announcement: One of the most significant improvements is the performance boost given to this edition. Here are a few figures comparing the memory consumption in the 32-bit live sessions of Linux Mint Xfce and Linux Mint 9 Xfce: * Mint Xfce: 107 MB RA...

Re: Debian Xfce Edition RC approved

"it isn't worth that and neither is that answer"? Wow. jeffreyC offered you a hardware-based solution and MerelyJim offered a software-based solution. Considering the constraints you stated (cannot boot from DVD, cannot boot from USB, and the iso does not fit on a CD) I think that jeffreyC's idea to...

I just checked out a review of Puppy 5, it looks a lot more polished and visually appealing than the version I had used before.

Re: where are these places?

I normally use Torrent for downloading. I don't know where the servers are located, and I forget which one I use when downloading a distro directly, but what I do is just choose one and start downloading and look at the progress. You can very quickly tell if it will be a slow download, if it is down...

Re: Mint 10 LXDE RC issues and bug. - numlock

Hi Kendall, Love the new Mint LXDE, trying to get it configured just right (for me). I've got the autologin thing sorted by editing all the .conf files I could find, but here's my bug - I cannot get it to boot up with numlock turned on. I hoped that uncommenting and setting numlock=1 in /etc/xdg/lxd...

Re: 500mhz pentium III with 512mb ram enough for Mint 10 LXD

I've been impressed with how well Puppy ran on my 650 Mhz, 512 MB machine a couple of years ago, but I never really liked the look of the windows, it just seemed a bit clunky (to be fair, I have not tried the newer releases). I really like the look and feel of Mint. You might give LXDE a try and tur...

Re: folder shortcut on desktop and partition mounting

Fred has a great post on automounting different types of partitions at startup:

http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=22093

Follow his instructions to automount the partitions you want, then make your shortcuts.

Re: Future of Mint: Ubuntu or Debian Based

A question on Debian based Mint. I understand that the Debian based Mint distro is a rolling release and that updates will be sent down periodically. When Debian Mint first came out last year, I installed it on my main laptop. I had a devil of a time getting everything working (wireless, sound etc.)...

Re: Wireless Connections - Why so difficult in Linux?

Plug your computer into a wired network, then run the "Hardware Drivers" program under System (at least that's where it is on my setup, Mint 9 XFCE). It should then tell you that a driver is needed and there should be an "Activate" button. Click the button and the computer will use your wired connec...
