Lost sound (SOLVED)

LM 13 Maya. Suddenly lost sound, dead. The levels are OK and not muted. It happened whilst I was watching a football match. I also have Mint14 and 15 on the same machine without any problems. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Boot order problem

Final comments. I have ended up triple booting running LM13, LM14 & LM15. Only for comparison purposes. LM13 remains my main distro, supported until 2017. All working fine and I can change the boot order with either LM14 or LM15. Haven't managed to repair grub customizer on LM13. I see no point in s...

Re: Boot order problem

Many thanks for your time and help trapperjohn. I will read on and decide what course of action I decide to take, if any. The last thing I want to do is break the system (like I used to do :D ) and start all over again. I will probably end up upgrading to Olivia when they polish it and sort out teet...

Re: Boot order problem

I can see myself breaking the whole lot! Now LM14 doesn't appear on booting, only LM13. Also, when I try to open Grub Customizer, in LM13, I get an error message, something like grub mk config. So I am now left with LM13 only, LM14 gone. :(

Re: Boot order problem

Right, I am getting somewhere. I have installed Grub Customizer on LM14 which has enabled me to enter LM13 as the default OS. It now boots LM13 OK. Hopefully it will also allow me to choose one or the other at boot. See what happens.

Re: Boot order problem

Thanks for coming in trapperjohn. When I enter startupmanager running LM13 it shows it as the default OS but on LM14 the command is not found! :? The other thing that puzzles me is that sometimes, on booting, it allows me to select LM13 or LM14 with the arrows up or down but most of the time it does...

I have just discovered under Capabilities that PAE is listed. Apologies...

Re: Boot order problem

trapperjohn wrote:Hi,

Quick question, do you have the OS's partitions on separate disks? If so, do you know which one you bios looks at first in boot priority?
LM13 has been installed on 250GB hard drive until I added LM14 alongside allocating 50GB.

AlbertP wrote:It certainly does. You wouldn't have been able to run 14 with its default kernel otherwise.
Well, LM14 64-bit has installed a generic kernel and I have checked again the CPU of my PC and it definitely does not support PAE. Go figure.

Re: Boot order problem

I use startupmanager to set the default. Some think it's old and newer apps are better. It always works for me (Mint 13 Mate) and it's in Synaptic. I have also used startupmanager and entered LM13 as the default OS but it has not changed the boot order. LM14 is still the default OS and as explained...

Re: Mint 14 System Requirements

Which CPU is it exactly? The only noteworthy non-PAE CPU's are older Pentium M models. There are also quite some Pentium Ms out which have PAE support and therefore run Mint 14 or 15 without any problem. I suspect you have one of those models. AMD Athlon(tm) 7550 Dual-Core Processor 2511.20MHz and ...

Re: Mint 14 System Requirements

I have a 32-bit CPU (non-PAE) which is allowing me to dual boot LM13 32-bit and LM14 64-bit, both using generic kernels. The requirements posted by Oscar at the top of this thread are then not exactly correct?

Boot order problem

I have been running LM13 since its launch and a few days ago I had the "bright idea" of adding alongside LM14. Dual booting works but I can't change the boot order having tried everything I have come across in Google. When I boot, LM14 is at the top as the default OS and, intermittently, allows me t...

Re: Epson XP-405 driver

Just had a chat with Epson Support (another one) and they now tell me, finally, that the XP-405 is not compatible with Linux and therefore they cannot help. It now doesn't even print, it just spits out sheet after sheet non-stop without printing anything. So that's it, bought the wrong printer :evil...

Re: Epson XP-405 driver

Sorry guys if I am being "heavy" about this one. Still struggling to find a way to SCAN with my new Epson XP-405 all-in-one printer. Very annoying because my old Epson Perfection 1200U is still going strong and scans beautifully (via USB). With this new XP-405 I keep getting "no scanner detected" de...
