Re: No Maya startup sound
kyphi, can you post a screenshot of your Start Sound in your Startup Applications so that I can see what command you are using? See mine below, command rm -r ~/.pulse && killall pulseaudio suggested by another poster. Alternatively just write/post the command. Thanks.

(SOLVED) No Maya startup sound
Since I installed Maya I have not had startup sound. I've tried all sorts reading through these forums and googling, all to no avail. I just cannot believe that the developers haven't come up with a fix. I have been running LinuxMint since Julia and never had this problem. Does anybody out th...

Re: Updating fails
I'd say leave it a while and try again. Some repos can be a bit unreliable at times. All of the official Ubuntu repos will be VERY slow when Ubuntu have a milestone release, as they spread the word and encourage people to download their latest current iso. Medibuntu is often ok, the one I've almost...

Re: open office & libre office
Hmmm...an interesting thing occurred since my previous post. When I was about to open Open Office, I discovered that it was not longer there! When I tried to reinstall, nothing happened. So, i checked to see if Libre Office was now available via Software Manager. It was and installed flawlessly. Ma...

OK, I've installed both vnstat and conky but where are they?NoSavvy wrote:You can do it with 'vnstat' and 'conky' quite easily. Look for conky examples if you are not sure how to.
I have it on the desk top and toggle it between hide/view with a key combination.
NS.

Re: Bandwidth usage monitoring
Check this site http://www.ubuntugeek.com/bandwidth-monitoring-tools-for-linux.html Just about every bandwidth monitor available for Linux is listed with a thumbnail description and a link to its home page. You should find something there. I've been there and installed a few but they all take me to...

Re: Adding free space to partition
Are you still able to boot sda8? Your sda6 and sda7 occupied some small space. If you can live with it, just do nothing. Save your potential boot issue. If you want to delete a partition, says sda6, then the old sda7 become new sda6 and old sda8 become new sda7, this might upset your boot. Of cours...

All I want on this machine is XP and Julia. Can I delete everything else (sda6 and 7) without upsetting the system? Thanks.

Re: Adding free space to partition
I think I have finally done it! This is how the HDD looks now:

What can I safely delete? sda7 should be what remains (swap?) of the old partition that has been moved to sda8.

Re: Adding free space to partition
An added suggeston: Again, in the LiveCD version of GParted, try MOVING sda7 so that it buts up to sda6. After that operation has completed, then resize sda8 from the now adjoining un-allocated space. Be patient as the resize on the left hand side normally takes an inordinate amount of time... :) ....

Re: Adding free space to partition
Well in order to allocate it to /dev/sda8, you are going to have to move /dev/sda7 to the left of the unallocated space, right beside /dev/sda6. From there you should be able to resize /dev/sda8 to the left to occupy the extra space. This needs to be done from a LiveCD. Thanks p_c. I'll try what yo...

Adding free space to partition
I need some guidance to add an unallocated partition (which housed another OS and now formatted) to LinuxMint.
It looks like this:
Dual system XP/LM is my aim. Thanks.

Re: open office & libre office
..and what makes LibreOffice better than OpenOffice? One improvement, I'm told, is that all PPSs play music with LO. Other than that, what's new? Better SVG support in Draw, import/export of Word Perfect and MS Works file formats, and it makes less use of Java. ...and because Oracle bought Sum Micr...
