Broken package

I am running Sylvia 18.3 and have a broken package which I have tried to fix unsuccessfully. Details as follows: dpkg: error: parsing file '/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 44171 package 'libtalloc2:i386': field name '!reference' must be followed by colon E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an erro...

Intermittent sound

I am running Sonya 18.2 Mate 32 bit and have had unreliable sound since installation. To avoid losing it, the only way I have found is to maximize to 152% 11.00dB and plugging my ears! If I reduce it to an acceptable level, say 100%, it stops working. Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Mint 18.2 upgrade went super well

OK, per my watch 25 seconds. That is what that command gave me. I am so new, that I had to copy from here to get the proper command. I really don't know the command line very well. Like I said, it seems "snappier" now, so I have to go on what shows. I copied what came up in Terminal. I understand. ...

Re: Mint 18.2 upgrade went super well

I have a Crucial MX300 275gb ssd and an Intel i3, in the computer if that helps. My standard boot times seem pretty quick for the most part, much faster than my 8 core Windows machine..... Is that the information that you wanted? Thanks but no, I am trying to find out if other people can boot quick...

Re: Mint 18.2 upgrade went super well

I did a wipe and fresh install of LM 18.2 and there's no difference I can tell in performance. From the time it begins to boot to the login screen is for me maybe 10 seconds, iirc. Another five and I'm at the desktop. Wonderful! You really have something there. My time is 1 minute 30 seconds, start...

Re: Mint 18.2 upgrade went super well

It appears that yours is a lot quicker than mine  Yes but a reboot or cold start takes just under 2 minutes for a working desktop! Would reaching userspace mean that you're 'there' on a headless system? But in this case means starting the DE? As I have said earlier the DE is reached in under ...
