Run gparted and you will see all the partitions l...

Re: Best download for my XP Computer?

Welcome to Linux. The two distributions that I use are Mint Mate and PCLinuxOS Mate. The reason for using the Mate desktop is that it is fairly light on resources and is probably the easiest for a Windows User to understand. The main difference between the two is that PCLinux is a rolling release ( ...

Re: cannot select installation type

ntfs is a windows format and can be read by Linux but Linux requires its files to be formatted in its own format. There is quite a choice but the current choice for mint is Ext4. On my setups I always have a data file formatted as ntfs where I save all my information. This file can then be read by w...

Re: Can’t load Mint 17.1 onto my computer

If you can run the dvd in compatibility mode and get to the desktop then you can just go ahead and run the install. Re: Mint install will not boot.

First comment is that sda is your harddrive and sdb is the secondary drive. You want to install the bootloader on the mbr on sda.

Re: cannot select installation type

Wow you have been busy.

Because of the way windows deals with files it really is necessary to defrag your drive before doing any changes. Also have you got a backup of your windows partition?

I am checking my live dvd to see how to try to make the explanations easier to understand.

Re: cannot select installation type

I am trying to install Linux Mint 13 Maya 32 bit. I have a pentium 4 desktop with a 80g primary drive and a 80G secondary drive which I use for back up. When I get to the place where you select installation type, I first tried installing "next to" Windows. When I do that, only one location choice i...

Ok boot up your live dvd and instead of letting auto load press enter to take you to the grub screen. Press the tab key and that will display the line you need to amend.

Re: Cannot install any software

Hi Jeff, firstly never worry about posting any questions as someone is always willing to help. Firstly, you can run both 32bit and 64 bit operating systems on a 64bit machine but only 32bit on a 32bit machine. Secondly, all software updates and new installs are done through the user account and not ...
