How I think Linux Mint could be improved.

These are just some things I've been thinking of, so let's see what you guys think. 1.) Project Promotion One of the biggest issues with Mint, and Linux in general, is the poor reliability of various programs. They're mostly written by people who are writing code on the weekend as a hobby, and there...

Banshee skipping podcasts

I've been having this problem with the way Banshee plays podcasts for a loooong time. Updates have come and gone, and the problem is still present and I seem to be the only one with the problem. If I play a podcast episode in Banshee, ever 8 minutes or so it will suddenly stop playing the episode an...

What is the best gamepad for Linux?

I have Dolphin-emu installed, and it's perfectly useable with the keyboard, but I'd really like a gamepad.

What would be the best one to get that works with Linux?

Re: Where is the Logic in Gnome 3 ?

The logic of GNOME 3 is to make your computer as much like a tablet as possible.

Honestly, the way that operating systems are going is ridiculous, in my opinion. Apparently people would prefer an interface comparable to a Fisher Price toy laptop, rather than one that can be used as a real tool.

Re: Sadly, I've moved away from Mint

Why not just use the version of Mint that worked for you? Hell, LM 11 isn't even that old. I agree that GNOME 3 is a travesty, but that's not going to just make me leave Linux Mint all together. We should give them some time to see if Mint can get past the problems in GNOME 3 or possibly get ...

Re: Why I don't like LM 12

It'd be great if Mint could eventually go Debian all the way and have its own desktop environment. Is there any reason why Linux Mint couldn't also have its own DE, or would that be too much work? Seems like Clem and company have already had to do enough work with GNOME 3. MintDE would be awesome. :D

I like the name Olivia. :D

EDIT: Ooops, I forgot that the next name is an M! Well when LM 14 comes around, my vote goes for Olivia.

Re: Why I don't like LM 12

MATE doesn't work at all for me. So I just ended up installing LM11. I selected it at the login, but I just got the same GNOME 3 desktop. Sorry, but I didn't see it on the front page. I just figured that the new LM would be similar enough to the other ones. Aside from GNOME Shell, is there really so...

Re: Why I don't like LM 12

Okay, I guess I'd like to say that I don't really blame LM. But it does seem kind of silly to do so much work for something that has seemingly less functionality.

I'll take a look at MATE, but I think I'll just be using LM11 on my mother's laptop since I'm most familiar with the standard LM desktop.

Why I don't like LM 12

I mainly started using Linux Mint because it came with a tried & true logical desktop setup. While not everything was perfect, it was all easily tweakable and familiar. I had enough confidence to install LM10 on my girlfriend's computer, and she still uses it today. Now my mom wants Linux Mint o...

Re: Can't get vsync to work

So far, the closest I've gotten to solving the vsync problem is to use metacity with basic compositing turned on. I want some real compositing, though. :(

Re: Can't get vsync to work

I have not found another solution only compiz 'on'. :/ With my last card, running a compositor solved the vsync problem. Compiz worked but it really decreases FPS when using 3d applications. The reason I switched to Mutter was because I got some basic compositing without any noticeable difference f...

I get the same thing. Though for some reason most other flash video players like Megavideo maximize just fine.

Re: Can't get vsync to work

This tearing issue is really bugging me. I don't want to have to buy yet another card. I disabled twinview and there's no more tearing on my main monitor. But I need both monitors for the work I do, so I had to re-enable twinview and the tearing on my main monitor came back. There doesn't seem to be...

Re: Can't get vsync to work

reinstalled the latest driver The 'latest' driver is not always the best choice with nvidia cards, people sometimes report better results with different versions. I would suggest turning off any effects until you have a stable display, same for twinview. You might also want to consider completely r...

Re: Can't get vsync to work

Okay, I reinstalled the latest driver and I had it create a new xorg.conf. Now I'm back to where I was; Still tearing in every window manager/compositor. No combination of settings seem to work. I'd like to mention that I am also using dual monitors with twinview, but this was the way I had it worki...

Re: Can't get vsync to work

Is the nvidia driver the correct one for the new card? If you have an xorg.conf, try deleting/renaming it then re-running nvidia-settings. It should be, anyway. I didn't use a driver from the repos; None of them worked so I used the one specifically for this card from Nvidia and it worked. I'll try...

Can't get vsync to work

This wasn't an issue until my BFG Tech graphics card gave out. So I replaced it with PNY card with a better Nvidia GPU. Everything seems to work fine except for horrible horizontal tearing. It happens even when I switch over to Metacity. I normally use Mutter which gives me a good compromise between...

Re: Flash 11 64 bit beta is out for linux

I made a package for you 64 bit users to install in case you want to. I took the mint-flash-square package source and changed the contents to include the contents from the archive from Adobe's site. It's not made by Clem, so use at your own risk. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZINZX0UC Does anybody kn...
