Let's have our own media player

Totem works fairly well but sometimes it doesn't play certain videos. VLC plays most videos but I've found it to be extremely buggy in recent releases. I say we should adopt GNOME Media Player. https://launchpad.net/gnome-media-player It's very simplistic at the moment, but it loads fast and it's ab...

Re: Why linux mint NEEDS to make KDE its default UI

Why not just make our own desktop environment based on Gnome 2? Sorry, but I like my GTK+ applications.

Also, is there no reason that Gnome 3 can't be modded to fit our needs? There's no good reason for the panels not being movable and for the GTK+ themes to not be changeable.

Re: How Linux Mint 11 Should look

Well I disagree with this. Global menus have far too many problems: they break 'sloppy focus' (focus follows mouse) which is a very useful feature True, but I've gotten used to not having that. Is this a problem inherent in any global menu or is this just a problem with gnome-globalmenu? [*] they a...

There's also Lumiera, which is a rewrite of Cinelerra. Still in the alpha stage, but looks promising.

Re: I hate Flash Player!

From France, Hello I try to read the Flash audio here : http://naive.bandcamp.com/album/the-end the site tell me I should install Flash Player...but I am on LM10 with the Mint-Flash package installed and, of course, flash is installed. I tried to install Afobe Flash 10 from the Software Center but ...

I'd say yes, but then we'd lose the convenience of launchpad PPAs. :(

Re: Can't install a damn thing without removing entire syste

well, it's a huge update! it doesn't seem to me that nothing can go wrong with it, so the only option here is basically do it; because the way you were doing it until now is plain wrong (sorry to put it so strongly :) ) you can't hold back a whole system, pick one or other update, install what you ...

Re: Can't install a damn thing without removing entire syste

I'm using LM 9 Isadora. Basically I've upgraded a lot of different packages as I've needed them over time, and I guess doing that has caused some problems. My only problems really exist in installing/uninstalling things. Otherwise my system seems to run perfectly fine. I've never done a full update....

Can't install a damn thing without removing entire system

This is really getting irritating. Normally I have been able to solve this issue by narrowing down what dependency needs to be installed/upgraded. Here's what I'm getting: sudo apt-get install melt Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following...

Get rid of gnome-keyring; Make Mint faster.

For a while I've been wondering why it would take an unreasonable amount of time for gnome-panel and my wireless connection to load at startup. But it wasn't too bad, so I put up with it until both of those things would just hang. Well I figured out that the slowdown and hanging is caused by gnome-k...

I've never used Drupal, but to me, Joomla is total crap.

For my purposes, Wordpress has worked just fine as a CMS without all of Joomla's complexities.

Re: Backing out of Firefox 4

Just downgrade to Firefox 3.16.x. Really, Firefox 4 isn't that different from Firefox 3. It works very well for me, but if I had to downgrade I wouldn't have much of a complaint.

Yes, I discovered this recently. Inkscape, while somewhat buggy, is probably one of the most useful graphics programs ever made.

Re: Cannot install Remastersys

mzsade, BINGO !!! have followed the trick suggested by kitchy The solution I found is installing live-boot and live-boot-initramfs-tools via apt-get. By so doing live-initramfs is removed. Then I downloaded live-initramfs from here: http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/live-initramfs and have been ab...

Not quite as functional as AWN though, as far as configurability and existing plugins. It's graphics intensive and the effects aren't ...

Re: Compositing...

Could you tell us what graphics card you have? That might shed some light on your problem. Here's the process I would probably go through if I had your problem. You may have already tried some of them, but I just want to lay it out. 1.) If using Metacity for the window manager, enable compositing by...
