Re: LMDE is really hard to love

After checking out Maya (Mint 13), it's really polished and you can tell where Mint's priorites lie. All their resources are on the main edition and LMDE is just an afterthought. There's not even any mention of there being a LMDE IRC channel.

Re: LMDE is really hard to love

Oh yeah, they don't include a menu for rebooting the system either (with their Gnome 3 shell). Are they on drugs when they tweak this stuff? Maybe they get together with the Gnome team?

Re: Why a Debian distro?

Why the middle man? This is the question I have asked repeatedly. It may be due to the development resources required, but I think Mint should step up and become a first tier distro, i.e., based directly off Debian. +1 squeezy. I actually believe Mint would use far fewer resources and have a much b...

Re: LMDE is really hard to love

Even the moderator thinks it's garbage. I installed virtualbox and for some reason it wanted to remove unetbootin and then it *downgraded* all these other package versions required. Also, it includes *ubuntu* in the name so they're compiling ubuntu packages which I doubt Debian (Wheezy / Testing) us...

Re: LMDE is really hard to love

I'm really considering installing a different OS soon, be it SuSE, Debian, Ubunti, or *gasp* Windows. I appreciate that Linux and LMDE in particular cater to a more "adventurous" crowd, who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. I appreciate that Gnome3/Unity etc. is trying to do something forward...

LMDE is a POS

So, I'm trying to fix my 'VLC problem' of it hissing whenever you use it. I thought maybe install some packages and see if it's related to the crappy Pulse. But, I can't upgrade anything. I have a dependencies problem and I noticed some packages have *ubuntu* in them. Isn't this supposed to be 100% ...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

Gnome3 is garbage and for ****s. KDE4 was a mess but it has a new challenger for biggest mess out of all the DEs. XFCE isn't bad but is becoming bloated. LXDE is for low-resource computers. Cinnamon and MATE look ok. The devs for that will probably mess those up eventually, too, though. Everyone wan...

Re: Mint 13 is "more" "rolling" than LMDE???

They also have no info on LMDE on ANY OF THEIR WEBPAGES. No one knows what version packages are. I guess you can check Distrowatch and see what Debian Testing is at (if they stick to that schedule).

It looks like LMDE is like an afterthought in the Mint World.

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Also, my VLC doesn't work properly. There's a terrible hiss that renders the program unusable. When I run synaptic or try to update/reload, many fail so this is yet another problem. LMDE w/ Gnome3 is probably one of the worst distros I've ever tried and the responses here seem to illustrate the qual...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Your Reason? Ever since I upgraded my system, I have tons of things that no longer work. I read countless posts of people who can't even get it installed. My printer stopped working. I don't know if there's any bug reporting but I think it's a major thing when a printer stops working. Also, the Gno...

Re: Just a general congratulations and some feedback

Mint sucks and the community/devs are indifferent to their users. I notice the support posts in the forum have dwindled steadily. I'm going back to Debian or try the new Sid spin. Not sure about their community but the posts here are less and less. I tried to get on thei spotchat servers but nope, c...

Re: Question for Developers

I think you just don't use your system.

I now discovered that I can't delete a directory even when I change to root user.

Also, I couldn't connect to the LMDE (Mint) server. The Mint Community just doesn't doesn't care but they post what donations they got.

Re: Question for Developers

Yes, I know! :D But, for Gnome 3 fans, I wonder what the fascination is with it. It seems horrible to me. I trialed the latest Mint LMDE w/ Cinnamon and MATE LIVE and either one seems fine to me. Heck, the xfce spin is probably miles better than the Gnome 3 one. Now, I did upgrade to Gnome 3 but the...

Question for Developers

This is about the Gnome integration.... I updated my system (accidentally) and the Gnome 3 integration is insane. Here are two REALLY STUPID features in the newest Gnome.... I don't know what they are called but these 'features' of the windows shrinking instead of minimizing windows. THIS IS INSANE!...

Re: changing fonts in the menu settings

The 'Ubuntu version' of Mint has a stylesheet.css file one can edit which allows one to change a font (supposedly, a menu font). Is that the equivalent? I'm not sure where it is in the Debian LMDE version though because what I found is for gnome-shell edition. http://www.itworld.com/software/237563/...

changing fonts in the menu settings

I am recommending LMDE (latest) to someone but I anticipate that the fonts will be too small. They'll install it to a laptop so how do you change the font size in the Menu? I notice that the fonts are small in either the Cinnamon or MATE desktop so how do you make them bigger? They're probably ok fo...

Re: Thank God For Linux Mint & Cinnamon

It looks pretty good albeit I've only tried the live media. I aim to install it on a new HDD I have. I'm not sure whether I'll like Cinnamon and MATE but I did like Gnome 2 and I liked KDE before it had major surgery. Now, my choices are XFCE (not bad), Cinnamon or MATE. I can't stand Gnome3 and KDE...

Re: mate+cinnamon livecd username + password

You could try replying to see if it works then? Let me know at what point, it's not working: I logged into Cinnamon (using Live media right now). This is the attempt to change the session to MATE. 1) Menu -> 'middle icon' selected -> "Log out - Leave the session' -> 'Log out of this system now? - 'Y...
