Re: Black screen when booting LMDE live-DVD

Well, the OP mentioned his laptop is a Thinkpad L420 which has the Intel HD Graphics 3000 chipset AFAIK. They have an open source driver only so I really doubt that it's the graphics driver that is a problem now. I would disconnect his laptop from the docking station (he said he had a 2nd monitor co...

Re: Live DVD will not boot...

Did you try choosing any of the alternative choices in the list? Just to see if any will allow you to boot. Alternative choices, as in download locations? I tried 2 different US downloads from here: http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=100 No, I don't mean that. When you first boot, there's a li...

Re: mate+cinnamon livecd username + password

hi, Yes, it is strange indeed. DVD/usb should not make a different usage experience.. Yup, I used unetbootin to make the bootable usb - like I do with other distros. After I click logout, I get the screen that allows me to login again. I can choose a desktop environment, and have a reboot option.. ...

Re: Cannot start x server

It sounds like the OP buggered up his xorg config files as it didn't properly purge the nouveau 'stuff' so that they're not in conflict. That's my theory anyway. Next time, OP, have a Live CD/DVD or the .iso on a usb stick and boot up the Live media of the same OS. It will give you the 'default xorg...

Re: mate+cinnamon livecd username + password

Hi, Thanks telenux for your considered tips! I am using lmde linuxmint-201204-mate-cinnamon-dvd-64bit.iso for an amd64 bit. Am booting via a usb rather than a disk - should it make a difference? After logging out, it just would not let me back in.. I'd love to try the cinnamon version on lmde as my...

Re: Installing LMDE xfcs 64 bit 2012 question

I edited the partions and dedicated sda1 and set the format to ntfs. The LMDE Installer is stalled. I do not know what I am doing wrong. Sent from my HTC Status using Tapatalk 2 I don't know about anyone else but you're making it sound confusing. Is the plan to NOT have Windows on that HDD on your ...

Re: garbled image rendering with Gnome3 shell and nvidia dri

Well, reports are that the latest Nvidia driver has some major issues. Not sure if that is contributing to any problem with suspend but you could inquire or search the forum (Nvnews and Phoronix).

Re: Problems with 201204 cinnamon/mate disto

It sounds like it is detecting the Broadcom wifi card in the laptop but the driver/firmware is not installed by default? I just checked via Synaptic and the BCM43xx driver is not installed by default. I know, because a search for package, b43-fwcutter (the firmware for b43 Broadcom cards) is not ins...

Re: urgent! live cd password?

http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/69 I posted a reply to the main edition (similar problem) by mistake but maybe some comments will provide some ideas? I am trying the 64-bit live cd but no issues - it logged in automatically at boot and I was able to switch to the Cinnamon session withou...

I guess I'm mostly posting to say that it doesn't seem to be a universal bug or anything. You might want to check your media. http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/69 "Note: If the ...

Re: installing using usb or cd/dvd media?

Does anyone use usb sticks for their install to their HDDs in their computer? I use it all the time. In fact, I prefer it over the cd/dvd's as they are just wated once an install is over. I tried writing iso's to rewritable cd/dvd's, which was an iffy business most of the time :-( I am just wonderi...

I was trying to avoid using Windows for this.

Re: installing using usb or cd/dvd media?

I believe everyone uses a pen drive these days... there is no point burning disks anymore. Unetbootin works on both windows and Linux but there's also something out there called pendrivelinux or something like that. Once your LMDE is installed you have an image writer by default along with backup t...

installing using usb or cd/dvd media?

I tried searching for installing via usb. But, I thought it wasn't specific enough. Does anyone use usb sticks for their install to their HDDs in their computer? I am just wondering if Unetbootin is still a good resource for creating the iso on the usb HDD. I really would like multiple distros to bo...

Re: SOLVED no sound with audigy Z2S soundcard, please help?

It's often that's a problem. There should be a sticky in every Linux distro forum, I think. :) It's a really annoying problem.... not sure why the default is to have it muted.

sound (.wav and audio cd) won't work

MINT LMDE, Gnome3, *not a clean install* -> updated/upgraded system, tried VLC 2.0.1 and MPlayer ver. 0.9.9.2 I have noticed a lot of older posts in forums about sound not working. I googled and read past Mint forum posts but also ones in Debian forums or sites. I'm mostly looking at either Mint Deb...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Thanks for the info, guys! My apologies for any speculation that Mint (devs) had anything to do with it! I've read a little about Gnome3 being a major disappointment to people. Is it me or are KDE and Gnome doing a lot of drastic things that are turning people off? I think some are going back...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Thanks. I had to use the *left* ALT key and I had to hold it down while choosing 'Power Off' simultaneously which led to more choices including restart/reboot. But, what is the point of that? Is that a Mint or Gnome3 'feature' I don't like it at all. Is that supposed to be intuitive because I don't ...
