Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

I updated (upgraded) since I had other issues with my LMDE install and this system looks so horrible. There's no option to restart or reboot the system. LOL! Are the Mint and/or Gnome ppl on drugs?!? I say, Mint, because they're the ones tweaking things. Gnome has no option for rebooting? That's dif...

Re: firefox and iceweasel

Oops. Sorry, I have some new problems now... :-/ I updated / upgraded packages so now I think I have Gnome 3.2 menu and icons. I haven't used Gnome for a long time as I installed/used xfce on my Debian install on my laptop and KDE on my desktop. But, Gnome was used with my Mint LMDE install. Now, Fi...

firefox and iceweasel

I'm not sure if this should be posted in this section but a question about upgrading. I will probably re-install LMDE to the latest version but I thought I'd experiment before I re-install. I upgraded several packages including Firefox. Firefox latest version in my repo is ver. 11.0 and Iceweasel is...

Re: Video Playback Problems

I guess you either gave up or solved it. I would guess it's the video driver. With a GTX 460, you might as well use the binary driver. Google the install with your system and search the forum for 'nvidia driver' with your card to see what ppl say. I haven't installed a nvidia driver in a while but t...

tons of bugs?

I notice a peculiar problem when I try to watch a video online. It switches to a new one after about 5 to 10 seconds. It's weird. I booted up my Debian partition and there's no problem playing the video. That's why I always switch back to Debian from LMDE and don't use LMDE for long. I always ALWAYS...

Re: Cannot install Blender

I have 2.58 showing in the repositories, too. 2.61 is the up-to-date version. So, to use this version, I need to install from the Blender website (blender.org) then? The Blender site shows ver. 2.61 needs Python 3.2 and glibc 2.7. But, Python is not at the newest version in the repo (not the latest ...

Re: wired internet not working

Update: my wifi suddenly stopped working. I received the 'bubble' 'wireless not connected' or something like that. Even when I tried to re-connect, it wouldn't. I looked at all the threads in this section and there seems to be a lot of wired/wireless issues going on. I wonder if there's some sort of...

wired internet not working

Hi, I installed Linux Mint Debian 201109 w/ xfce and this just after a fresh install, my wired internet doesn't work. I thought I'd inquire here before trying things. Maybe I should (have) post(ed?) to the Mint Debian (LMDE) section (too)? Everything looks ok so far other than that issue. Here's som...

Re: Mint is overrated

It might be my hardware but I have had Debian, Fedora, and Lubuntu on this laptop at times and this is the first time I had that sort of issue. Hardware issues can show up at random. Like I said before, run fsck on your root filesystem and see if it picks up any problems. An I/O error is not a good...

Re: Mint is overrated

Wow. I guess the mint fanatics won't like me bashing it but it's really in bad shape. I guess I was right in the first place that Mint's priority is still the Ubuntu side. You're guessing a lot... By the sound of your posts I initially thought I was faced with feedback on a critical issue. I then s...

Re: LMDE (gnome and xfce) new isos up for testing

I installed from this: http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=1725 Shortly after installing, I did the update and dist-upgrade and tried to install splix drivers for my printer. But, I got the 'mint-x-theme' issue and couldnt' install the splix driver as the attempted procedure failed. I also had a problem wh...

Re: LMDE (gnome and xfce) new isos up for testing

I guess you're right about problems or bugs that need solution. But, they're doing a lot of work and in time we will see a working release. I don't think that Mint sucks. Any linux distro would be the same. There's always bugs. But there is always will and a true democratic flow of power to the sof...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - read here first - Update 5 august 2011

Clem and his dev team doesn't seem to give a crap about LMDE so it's best to use straight Debian.

I don't know why Debian fans would want a buggy and neglected Mint distro that just uses a debian base and then they don't care anymore.

Re: Mint is overrated

Another update: I just opened Synaptic Package Manager to see what package of mint-x-theme was showing. I tried to upgrade it but I cannot even select it. In fact, Synaptic Package Manager seems to freeze.... actually, it is a crash! I eventually receive a message that it's no longer functioning and...

Re: Mint is overrated

I don't know what it means. I was hoping someone could interpret it. I googled it and there's not much out there that is returned. "(Reading database ... 85%dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting" -> after 85% of the install process, it cannot continue? Something wrong with the package, package ...

Re: Mint is overrated

Then run in a terminal: sudo aptitude -v install splix The -v switch makes the output verbose. See what it says, it may give you a clue, perhaps you are missing some dependencies for it. It outputs the same error I quoted above. I don't know what it means. I was hoping someone could interpret it. I...

Re: Mint is overrated

I provided the error message. No one comments on that... My theory is something Mint devs did regarding the packages. Else, why that message? I've installed this Samsung driver many times without a problem. It's the splix driver that is in the debian packages. The Samsung printer is ML-2510. ...

Ok. It's good to know that both the community members and developers don't care before one invests (wastes?) too much time with the OS.

Mint is overrated

I don't care that they need money so they use that annoying 'Mint-based' Google search. So, you have to know about a blog to edit it. I know this is the method for some reason but please make it easier if someone decides to have it unfettered. Also, I couldn't install a simple printer driver for wha...
