Re: Question regarding partitioning

I multiboot a lot of computers. Usually with existing Win OS because often something just need WinOS to do 'easily'. Since you are going to be experimental modes at time when testing alpha/beta distros... so I am going to show you what I had. my scheme is more on simple side, quite similar to what R...

Re: Partitioning Questions Re-Partitioning

On this subject, my understanding is 1. the OS has been cloned, presumably on an external hard disk. 2. the OS is now at extended partition on internal hard disk 3. the OP wishes to repartition so that the OS will become on Primary partition.. If I were in this situation, I would use this method: 4....

Re: Linux Mint 17.1 not Dual Booting with Wins 8.1

The only other thing I could think about is how to set a default option so that it will boot into windows. Then whenever I do need to change it to win7, linux, i can do that by pressing a button but, I guess its good enough to be able to boot into it the way I have it now. Hi starrmory, it is nice ...

Re: no grub loader after the installation!

Not sure what happened. if you can type a few command codes into the terminal , copy the result and post here, it will help people to understand your hard disk partitions and LM17 installation. Here are the steps to troubleshootL 1. boot and run your computer with LM17.1 DVD or USB 2. open a termina...

Re: Linux Mint 17.1 not Dual Booting with Wins 8.1

When I turn on my computer Linux Mint loads right away and there are no options for Windows at all that show up on the display. Linux Mint loads into the operating system from the start. After checking your latest image links, your situation is 1. both 1000G disk and 240 SSD are in msdos format 2. ...

Re: Trouble installing Mint 17.1

I have no idea how Windows 8.1 was installed, I got the machine delivered with it already assembled and all. Very likely it is installed in UEFI mode. However sometime the person installing Win8.1 might choose legacy / bios mode. Whatever it is, you can check either by running on Win8.1 ( lots of t...

Re: Linux Mint 17.1 not Dual Booting with Wins 8.1

I am patient. I don't expect to solve this right away. I'm not that experienced with Linux so it will be interesting to try to solve. hmm, if you have lots of patience, and do not mind using command line, then you could do these steps to check your dual boot. The first thing to check is your partit...

Re: CPU runs hotter with Mint than Win 7?

How can I keep an eye on the clock speed in real time like in coreTemp? I use xfce, xfce has simple sensor applet, cpu freq, cpu graph etc. I put them in the left panel as shown in following pic, set them up to upgrade after a few seconds so it looks like 'real time' on cpu graph and coretemp. http...

Re: Software Rendering mode or Cinnamon crashing

Check if system has the tools required for installation. fglrx installation requires that the system have kernel headers for 3.7 release. /lib/modules/3.19.0-031950-generic/build/include/generated/uapi/linux/version.h cannot be found on this system. One or more tools required for installation canno...

Re: Want to uninstall Cinnamon desktop

I cannot tell whether the command in your installation would remove cinnamon without ill effect. However I could tell you this is a process I usually would use: let the 'simulation' does for me to review what the command would remove, without executing the said command. To do this, simply add a '-s'...

Re: Remove linux mint hard drive but keep windows booting

This is what I would do... 1. Boot the dual boot system, choose Windows 7 2. Now i am running Windows 7, depending on whether Win7 was installed in MBR mode or UEFI mode... 2.a. If my Win7 was installed in MBR/msdos mode, I would get a free copy of EasyBCD. Then, install EasyBCD, follow by writing w...
