Re: Dual boot going straight to windows?

Perhaps you can do these to troubleshoot: 1. Boot with your Live DVD or Live USB flash that you installed your Linuxmint 2. While running Live mode, open a root terminal, type these codes, copy all terminal response and post here note, you can type sudo su to get into a root terminal, that has # pro...

Re: Grub2 - cannot find entries

I installed Debian 64-UEFI onto a partition. Its grub version is 2.02 xx No issue to get all UEFI partition OSes and all msdos partition OSes onto the grub2 boot entries and all of them can boot up. I think Grub2 is OK, for 1.99 and 2.02. But I do not have experience on clover and Mac OS X booting. ...

Re: Grub2 - cannot find entries

Now Debian-UEFI-grub is controlling the boot entries.. Reboot, Debian UEFI, WIn7 and Debian-msdos all can boot. LM17 cannot boot. How to boot LM17? Directly from UEFI entry. There is a version difference on grub2 between Debian and LM. The behaviours also different using old commands. My next experi...

Re: Grub2 - cannot find entries

No problem to boot to any OS selected by the grub entries generated by the last update-grub command in LM17 Now I am booting and running Debian 7, this one was installed in msdos mode, lets see, it has lower grub2 version and this is the old (non-EFI) version root@debXbios:/home/wayne# grub-install ...

Re: Grub2 - cannot find entries

i would continue experiment and post here because it might be relevant I do a full dist-upgrade in Mint17, in UEFI installed mode and use command grub-install /dev/sda to let it take over the boot automatically Now reboot, and check wayne-K42JY wayne # grub-install --version grub-install.real (GRUB)...

Re: Grub2 - cannot find entries

Not sure if I can help. However I would just use this UEFI laptop, installed with a mix of OSes below for testing os-prober on two different versions of grub2 to see how it find the installed OSes Now running LM17 : [code]wayne-K42JY wayne # grub-install --version grub-install.real (GRUB) 2.02~beta2...

Re: Looking for advice on choosing laptop for dual booting m

I am in another part of the world. Did not buy new laptops over last year. Helped friend bought Lenovo, but not the model on your list. And only thing I wish to say, for me, I would avoid Lenovo , for as long as Asus /Acer are available.. New model might not have issues I encountered. The thing I wo...

Re: the dd command

To avoid pulling out USB flash too early due to no feedback on dd command, what I usually do is add a sync command , like this real stuff I did:
[wayne@trios][~]$ su
Password:
root@trios:/home/wayne# dd if=debian-jessie-DI-rc2-i386-DVD-1.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M; sync

Re: Which version of Mint will support my old hardware

I am not knowledgeable on Xeon CPU From what I read it seems to be Pentium 4 class, dual-core processor. Being work station class, it should have much better graphic card during those day. However, supporting ATI card of that old (ATI Radeon VE display adapter) can be a problem in modern Linux OS. T...

Re: Need Advice on Portable Linux Mint (8 GB USB) w/Thunderb

What I want: 2) Preferably, I'd love to be able to run Linux Mint on the USB stick (pen drive) as well w/ Thunderbird (or some other option for #1 above) running on it. That way I could also run Linux Mint in a Live USB fashion. So, basically: A) Are there other options to #1 and/or #2 above that y...

Re: Installing Mate on a XFCE hard drive

In a dual or multiboot environment, the SWAP partition can be shared by all OSes, because at any one time, only ONE OS is running. As for the process of deleting a partition OS , it all depends on your partition scheme. Some schemes make deleting an OS partition very easy.. Some schemes might need t...
