Re: Some Questions
Hi and welcome to linux and mint. An 8 gig usb drive will work at least to start I'm not sure how many apps you would like to have over the ones already installed. unetbootin works for making a usb install but if you still have windows available I'd suggest this it will let you put the latest mint o...

Re: Porting Linux Mint tools to Arch (formerly Mint Arch Edi
Just saw this thread today. I have to say I'm one of the people nowhere ready for an arch based system, but have to say I'm impressed with what you're doing . Sloshy hopefully before to long I'll be at the point to try an arch install and I love the idea of being able to have the things that make mi...

Re: Linux Mint from CD?
Since you mention you have windows an alterative to unetbootin is here http://www.pendrivelinux.com/universal-usb-installer-easy-as-1-2-3/ the nice thing about this one is it links to mint 9 I think unetbootin only has 7 or 8 as the latest mint as a direct link. I saw that link i another topic in fo...

Re: A question concerning setting up a system to triple boot
Not sure if this will help but apparently osx and grub don't like each other.http://blog.larsstrand.org/article.php?story=Triple-Boot-OSX-Ubuntu-Vista If I read this right the easiest way to get things working will be to use the OSX disc to wipe the partitions install OSX then follow the directions ...

Re: Mint Naming conventions and Hurricanes
I have to agree Clem pretty much has the sense to avoid a name with negative connotations like Katrina. Jason , my grandmother Wilma and her sisters all would gotten a kick out of a linux distro with their name if it was brought to their attention. Must say thought my granny would be more like arch ...

Re: Would Linux Mint work on my PC?
mint should run fine on yours. you may also want to try the lxde andxfce versions as well as isadora the main one. although isadora runs nicely with that amount of ram, many minters with similar rigs find the lighter desktops run much faster . Good luck.

It would not be the same as installing from the original disc it would be exactly what is on there now assuming no data corruption during the transfers.

Ratface sorry it didn't work out but netflix doesn't work with linux and has no plans to play nice with linux their choice.. As far as embarq I was just able to get to their home page and navigate to the support page. and i'm running mint 9. Now if you're problem with them is that their service tech...

Re: The Document Foundation & LibreOffice -- OpenOffice.Org
Looks like once again Oracleis doing their best to alienate open source people. With Novell Canonical and Redhat already siding with Libreoffice they do have some backing. What will be interesting to see is which side of the fork IBM decides to go with. I swear it seems Oracle is as anal as Microsof...

Re: No Wireless on Newly Installed Linux Mint
vin i just googled the realtek nic you have and it looks like that has had real problems with linux and win xp too . I hate to say this but your best option might be to get hold of a usb wireless dongle with good linux support or bite the bullet and get a legal copy of windows to put on there. EDIT ...

Re: Cant pick
Remoulder described them well I admit to being a gnome person but have to say KDE is a lot more customizable and more eye candy as well if you like that. Either one of these are very easy to set up in dualboot and should give a pretty good out of the box start. try both live cd's.

Re: How can I save LiveDVD config
Dont think you can do exactly that but you could make a persistant usb copy using ubootnetin by copying the iso into a folder and use ubootnetin to make the thumbdrive copy. and if your machine is running windows there is a windows version of the program that works just as well.

I think another option is use the one in mint repositry if you have the live cd of mint use braseeo to copy the live cd as an iso file it will put it home named brasereo.iso then you should be able to use the use iso image option. I haven't actually tried it since I dont have a thumbdrive laying aro...

That definately sounds like one of the fake antivirus malware popups that are floating around. Some of them will infect a Windows machine just running a mouse over it or clicking on the x button that supposedly closes it. So glad I run Linux
