Re: What Mint for what system ?

Steve I just happened to notice your using the nvidia 105g on your machine and googled it out of curiosity apparently there has been trouble with linux support for that at least earlier in the year. you may want to check the nvidia site or somewhere to find out if better support is resolved. Mainly ...

Re: Will you upgrade- or stay?

Have to say I'll stay The main reason I went from 8 to 9 was Isadora is a LTS. I will add I might decide to dual-boot LMDE again after we see what happens when debian unfreezes things and I get better with gparted  . Have to admit to screwing up partitions a couple times through lack of knowle...

Re: What Mint for what system ?

Isadora is the mainedition which I run on a slower single core laptop I love it. I think your main concern could be games WOW is supposed to run great on wine or playonlinux which I think may be easier to set up. Google playonlinux and on their site you can find which games play well. I don't do vid...

Re: How do you go from one version to the next?

It is possible to upgrade through synaptic not sure of the command but know this works best if you have home on a seperate partition . Fresh install like xp to vista is generally recommended. I will add if you're new to linux and like mint 9 you may want to keep it for awhile as it will be supported...

Re: Security in Mint 9 - Old Kernel?

As i understand this particular insecurity it only involve people running 64 bit os opposedto 32 bit AND it can not be done remotely they have to have local access. The most insecure part of any pc is the person operating it.

Re: Linux Mint 9 does not install drivers. Why?

Glad you got your driver installed, now asfor your password and other settings use the same wireless password you're using in windows I am assuming you have a secured wireless set up you also need to set the encryption to the same as in windows eg wpa2 personal. The network manager will walk you thr...

Re: LibreOffice

Could be a very good thing, seems like the big 3 complaint about OO is slow to load clunky at times andthe way some documents look when viewed in ms office. If they can show improvement in the first 2 it will help . Some how i got the feeling at least part of the third problem is with ms. and think ...

Many left-handers?

just an odd thought. With left handedness at about 10% I was wondering if linux tends to attract more lefties than you would think . I remember reading somewhere that astronaughts had a much higher rate of left-handedness for some reason.
