Re: Laptop beeps sometimes as DE loads

I hadn't thought to check the accessibility settings because it's an intermittent issue, which is why I'm trying to track down the message I assume it's trying to tell me. I do have a startup sound that's working beautifully.

Re: Laptop beeps sometimes as DE loads

Thanks guys, but I'd still like to get an idea of why it's beeping before I shove a rag in its proverbial mouth.

Re: Laptop beeps sometimes as DE loads

Thanks for the quick response, sagirfahmid3. I checked it but all the file says is "(Nothing has been logged yet.)" I'm hesitant to mute the speaker because I suspect it's trying to tell me something so I'll hold off on blacklisting it for now, but I'll keep checking that file as I do more boots tha...

Laptop beeps sometimes as DE loads

(I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this so if it isn't please move it to the appropriate place.) I recently rebuilt my Lenovo T61 with LMDE KDE UP4 and immediately updated it to UP5 and since then I'm noticing that every few boots I get a beep as KDE begins loading, with another beep a...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

THANK YOU! You saved my ass! I had the same problem. Im guessing for future reference to reinstall the nvidia drivers before I reboot after any new kernel install. Now that you've got the driver installed using dkms, it'll be rebuilt automatically on kernel upgrades. dkms = Dynamic Kernel Module Su...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

Qapla'! It turned out the phrase that paid was sudo apt-get install nvidia-kernel-dkms nvidia-glx build-essential nvidia-settings nvidia-xconfig --reinstall I can't tell y'all how nice it is to be back up and running with the GUI. Note to self: Stop upgrading with sudo apt- fast dist-upgrade. Apt-g...

Re: Linux Mint Debian Edition User Guide

An update for UP5 is probably a pretty good idea. What do you think, borgio? (I need to get my translation changes sent to you soon. How would you like them sent again?)

Re: "Adobe flash player was blocked... out of date" Chromium

I'm still getting the flash not installed message from the LA Times, despite putting the downloaded file in both /opt/mint-flashplugin-11/ and /opt/google/chrome/PepperFlash/ and alternating which version of Flash was enabled. Oh well, now it's more of an annoyance to be worked around than not being...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5

Great news, Tom! I keep forgetting to see about upgrading Minitube so it will work, especially since I now have a video downloader for Chrome that seems to work with my non-Google video sources (Google won't allow YT downloaders in the Chrome store, the silly devs). What makes it even better is a qu...

I'll give it a try but I get a completely blank screen quite a while before my status lights finally show a fully off system.

No, that won't be necessary.
That's what I thought but I wanted to make sure. I love seeing how your little project is growing and how popular it's getting. It's exactly what so many of us have been asking for.

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5

Sorry about that. I didn't realize it was a new version. I installed the new DDM and reinstalled the new welcome-screen and everything ran without a problem I can see. $ wget -c http://www.schoelje.nl/lmdekde/packages/device-driver-manager_0.1.0_all.deb --2012-09-30 09:25:41-- http://www.schoelje.nl...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5

Sure thing. $ lsb_release -c Codename: debian I did go back and get the latest welcome-screen from the UP4 screen and install it but I'll be glad to test new mods to help get it ready for new users. I'm already getting nice traffic on the article I wrote about this update so I know people are wantin...

Re: Something continues running after shutdown post UP5

What is weird is that I get the same behaviour even when running sudo halt. I hope there is a solution as the only way to shutdown is to hard power off (not a long term solution). Can you pass 'acpi=off' to kernel and see if it happens again? I tried this last night and my laptop wouldn't boot at a...

Re: The unofficial LMDE KDE UP5

Under System Settings > Application Appearance should be "GTK+ Appearance." There you should have the option for oxygen-gtk. This should make GTK apps resemble KDE's default Oxygen style. Another option you may want is QTCurve. QTCurve is highly customizable and can style both KDE and GTK styles al...
