Re: cant install libqt5core5a

Why are you trying to install libqt5core5a?? That is part of the as yet to be released KDE5 DE.. QT5 and KDE5 are not compatible with QT4 and KDE4 and will cause conflicts..if not a crash... I would suggest doing a wipe (after backing up all needed files) then do a clean install of Mint 17. It will ...

Re: Mint with KDE fail

Does anybody notice when someone has (to themselvies) a glitch which they don't try to work out they turn to using such words as "crap" and "it sucks" along with a few others I won't mention.. Most times when you come ask questions WITHOUT an attitude people are willing to help but when you come in ...

Re: Why i hate Mint and Love OpenSuse! (packages kept back)

I started using Suse back in the 90's and used it again around 2003.
I currently have 13.1 KDE and love it..even got VLC working right which can be difficult with rpm based systems..
Right now it is a toss up on which one to stay with....Mint or OpenSuse...

Re: Rolling Release "Mania"...

If people want to take a look at rolling releases they should give SolydXK a try..

I've used others including PCLinuxOS and much prefer SolydK..

Before jumping the Mint ship SolydXK only comes in 2 flavors... KDE and XFCE. They took these 2 when Mint dropped them from LMDE..

Re: difficulty running a live disk on Windows 8.1

Sorry if this sounds a bit harsh -- but if I lent you MY PC to have you "tune it up", I would be very upset if you trashed it in the process of trying to get it to run a Linux distro. Messing around with Secure Boot and/or UEFI runs the risk of just that -- trashing a working PC. My advice would be...

Re: Failure to install acroread

Acroread is no longer available for Linux but you can still get version 9.5 First off you need to dump the repo you setup. You can do this by opening synaptic and click on settings- repositories-PPAS. Uncheck the repo you setup then do sudo apt-get update Next determine if you have gdebi installed b...

Re: Mint & Windows 7 dual boot

What you may have to do is connect the Windows drive to the secondary master and the Mint drive to the primary master. You only have to set the BIOS to boot the primary (first drive). Once in Mint open the terminal and enter sudo update-grub . I suspect you have both drives connected to the primary ...
