If you are lucky, then mount the hdd, backup all your needed data - due your disk is probably seriously ill :) and gonna pass away... ;) Then try regular boot. It seems you will have to go to your seller and ask for new disk......

Re: How to install deb files from downloads

It doesn't matter where you place your downloaded files ;) E.g. I have I created in my home such folders like: /home/ my_account /download/bin /home/ my_account /download/debs_sources /home/ my_account /download/other_stuff etc. In generally, when you wanna run any * .deb file just click on it. Anot...

Comparing Firefox vs Chrome gives me bright winner at the first sight: FF or Chromium.
Why ? The beast aka Chrome takes out of RAM 2x (twice) more than FF or Chromium

Re: Mint Backup Questions - To Avoid Downloading Again

As for your installed apps, their (downloaded) .debs should appear here: /var/cache/apt/archives/ Just check it out before backuping. Then you can run just 1 line to backup them (of course in terminal aka CLI ), e.g.: sudo cp -r /var/cache/apt/archives ~/backup/debs In this case, I have in my /home/...

Re: no boot after update with sqeeze repositories

Ok, so for stupid (l)users, like me , for example :D , that above mentioned .iso can be used for Stable repos, right ? Does it mean in fact , you have Debian "Squeeze" mixed aka combined/included with Mint cool features inside ? :) And one more question - for you, as skilled Mint geek: how you see t...

Re: no boot after update with sqeeze repositories

Installed Mint Debian latest version; rebooted, and changed from testing to squeeze repositories and updated By 'latest', I assume you mean 201109? If so, with respect, this is NEVER going to work nowadays without an EMORMOUS amount of work! This topic has been covered ad nauseam in these forums. T...

Re: Need to pull bookmarks for dead system

It should be in your home folder, e.g.:

/home/viero/

Turn yourself to see hidden files and then look for folder ".opera" (folder with a dot in the beginning of the folder name ;))

In that folder (.opera) a file "bookmarks.adr" should appear where is the list of your bookmarks.
