Re: Desktop Theme Changed to QT - want to restore old theme

Heh.. the same thing happened to me also, and that was after I did an upgrade. I don't know what set it right, but I did an upgrade again and restarted my computer and changed the theme.

Are you getting frequent crash reports and hanging desktops which force you to hard reboot? ctl+alt+backspace doesnt work.

Re: Separate Home Partition

If I am not wrong Fedora and Red Hat's installer has the option to have different sets of partitions. But, this stage might confuse new users.

Re: Gnome 3

No, you understood me wrongly. I never implied windows has better workspace management. I meant that windows has passable support for virtual desktops through virtuawin, while having better window management, which put together is better than what gnome3 offers. Tbh, I really like the rest of gnome ...

Re: Gnome 3

Linux isn't Windows and that just because you are used to something working in a certain way doesn't mean that it is the best way for that thing to work. I agree. But, Gnome2 was better than windows because of its great support for virtual desktops. I would like to argue that windows is better than...

Re: Gnome 3

I meant the window switcher applet in gnome 2. I haven't seen it in any of the unity videos or images so I assumed it was not possible to get it. It's definitely not there in gnome3, and I don't like finger gymnastics (alt-shift-tab click or something) when I have to constantly keep switching. I am ...

Re: Gnome 3

There are things that look good abotu Gnome 3, but I will have to spend time with it to know for sure. Like the lack of minimize maximize buttons on the menu bar. It looks good and makes sense, but then I realized that dragging windows using a laptop touchpad isn't the most comfortable thing. Hi, y...

Hi, welcome! You should consider shifting your sources to unstable repos if you like living life on the edge. Some forum members do it without much problems at all.

Re: Gnome3 for the inexperienced

I just tried the live CD, and I didn't like it. It's way to immature and still beta quality if you will. I mean, it's pretty okay for touch devices with the big icons nad workspace buttons, single application focus and the applications wingpanel or whatever, but far, far from being usable in a deskt...

Re: debian squeeze sucks!

Yes, but the ISO's version of packages available on Linux Mint website testing = squeeze. So to track stable, just change your sources.list from testing to squeeze and do apt-get update. Putting it your way, it is squeeze before squeeze went stable.

I disagree. Configurations and settings files change so often, and vary so greatly between distros and within distro versions that it is to find 100% reliable results on Google.

Re: No Network Connections.

Thanks. I had looked that up in the Debian documentation, and was not sure whether it was okay to change "testing" to "squeeze" to install the module-assistant package.

Anyway, I did it, and it worked.

[SOLVED] No Network Connections.

Edit: Wired is now working. It is not detecting wired or wireless connections. When I installed Julia and Isadora, it gave me the option of installing Broadcom drivers, but no such thing happened with LMDE. 1. inxi -F (basically Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY and Broadcom NetLink BCM5784M Gigabit...

Re: Which is the best Edition of Linux/Unix?

I am using the generic Mint 32-bit from the website, and I was wondering what was the best possible version of Linux/Unix. Liquorix ( http://www.webupd8.org/2011/03/how-to-install-liquorix-kernel-in.html ). Don't install it in mission critical desktops as it is not exactly "stable". However, a lot ...

Re: Would Linux be more popular with LESS choice?

Excuse my illiteracy on this subject, but do Linux apps become incompatible as often as Firefox addons do with new FF releases? In a sense yes. When people keep developing new apps (or newer versions of apps) they use the newer versions of libraries which are not present in older distros. More than...
